Melissa L. Torto

Melissa L. Torto is the distinguished owner and managing partner of her Boston-based law firm, the Law Office of Melissa L. Torto, LLC. She passionately serves the community in Boston and Eastern Massachusetts, focusing on the intricate world of egg donation, embryo donation and surrogate parenting law. Collaborating with surrogacy agencies nationwide, particularly ConceiveAbilities in Chicago, Illinois, she brings her deep understanding of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) law to the forefront.

Since her graduation with cum laude from Suffolk University Law School in 2015, Ms. Torto has dedicated herself to ART and surrogacy law. She has held licenses to practice law in Massachusetts since 2015 and in Colorado since 2022. Her career is marked by assisting countless families in crafting and negotiating egg donor and gestational carrier agreements, establishing parentage rights, drafting insurance appeals and adoption petitions. Her guidance has been invaluable to parents navigating the legal complexities of surrogacy. 

A true professional in her field, Ms. Torto actively engages in the surrogacy community by moderating panels for the American Bar Association and participating in conferences and clinic visits focused on family and surrogacy law. Her academic journey also includes a bachelor’s degree cum laude in political science from Stonehill College, where she excelled academically, earning a spot on the dean's list. 

Ms. Torto’s scholarly contribution, "International Family Law – Habitual Residence, Changing Custody Rights, and Wrongful Retention and Removal under the Hague," was published in the Suffolk University Transnational Law Review in 2014. Furthermore, she has been an active member of the American Bar Association's Family Law Section since 2016.
