Melissa Langa is a principal of the Boston law firm of Bove & Langa. Melissa has built a dynamic domestic and international practice guiding individuals, families, businesses, and charitable entities in designing and implementing customized tax-efficient structures to meet their particular estate planning, business, and charitable goals. She is adjunct professor at Boston University School of Law’s Graduate Tax Program where she teaches estate planning.

Prior to Bove & Langa, Melissa’s legal experience included advocating for civil rights on behalf of the United States in the U.S. Courts of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court -- specifically protecting the employment rights of minorities, women, the disabled, and the aged. While taking an extended time off from the law to raise her children, Melissa’s civic activities included leading a women’s rights political action committee, spearheading the funding and building of a new elementary school playground, and serving as a town meeting member.

Upon re-entry to the law, Melissa chose the field of trusts and estates as the ideal vehicle to allow her to continue her advocacy for clients’ personal rights and to help them build a better legal blueprint for themselves and their families.

Melissa is currently an active member in numerous professional organizations including serving as a founding Co-Chair of the Boston Chapter of the international Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and is Co-Chair of the American Bar Association’s Asset Protection Planning Committee. Her philanthropic activities include serving on the Board of Directors of Boston’s SpeakEasy Stage Company and on the Board of Trustees of the Brookline Community Foundation.

Melissa is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and has been recognized by her peers by being named a “Best Lawyer in America – Trusts & Estates” yearly since 2009 as well as being named one of Massachusetts’s Lawyers Weekly Top Women of Law for Trusts and Estates in 2013. In addition to those honors, Melissa was most recently named the 2014 Estate Planner of the Year by the Boston Estate Planning Council.
