Peter M. Merrigan

Peter M. Merrigan is the managing attorney at Sweeney Merrigan Law in Boston, Massachusetts, where he directs complex personal injury and liability litigation on behalf of individuals and families. Admitted to practice in the state since 2008, he has earned a reputation for tenacious advocacy and favorable outcomes in matters ranging from motor vehicle collisions and maritime incidents to wrongful death claims, defective product cases, slip-and-trip accidents, insurance disputes, and general liability actions.

A native of Western Massachusetts, Mr. Merrigan graduated cum laude from New England School of Law, where he was honored with CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in negotiation and selected topics in constitutional law. He laid the foundation for his legal career after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from James Madison University in Virginia.

Before completing his legal studies, Mr. Merrigan was appointed as a Rule 3:03 Prosecutor for Suffolk County, representing the commonwealth of Massachusetts at the West Roxbury District Court. In that capacity, he conducted arraignments, pretrial conferences, motion hearings, bench trials and jury trials as an assistant district attorney – a formative experience that sharpened his courtroom skills and deepened his commitment to justice.

A prominent figure in the legal circle, he is an active member of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys, the Boston Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association and the National Lawyers Guild. Outside the courtroom, he gives back to the community as a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Boston.
