Scholarly Lectures/Writings:
  • Rachel recently was on a panel that educated judges on the immigration consequences of criminal convictions.   Immigration law is no longer confined to immigration courts. Many defendants who come before you are non-citizens, and the resulting convergence of immigration and criminal law presents practical implications for judges across the Commonwealth. The panelists will provide an overview of the current law, and demonstrate through examples of concepts in a real-world context how the law empowers judges to ensure that relevant immigration issues are handled as successfully as possible. Particular emphasis will be placed on the plea stage of a case and in the event a Motion for New Trial is before you, ways to effectively ensure justice is done.Panel:Hon.
