Ronald A. Witmer is Of Counsel at Warner, Federico & Ryan LLP and has retired, although he continues to hold an active license to practice law. As one of the founding figures of a predecessor to this esteemed firm, he has devoted his career to the intricate world of divorce and family law. Beyond this, he has also worn the hat of trustee for various trusts and lent his skills to representing social service agencies and mental health professionals in court battles.
Through his work with clients navigating the turbulent waters of divorce and custody disputes, Mr. Witmer has seen the profound impact attorneys can have in these deeply personal and challenging situations. He believes that those practicing in this field hold a unique position to guide individuals through their personal and legal challenges with grace, helping them to maintain financial stability as they embark on new life journeys.
Hailing from Jackson, Michigan, Mr. Witmer's academic path began with a B.A. from Albion College, followed by an M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. His legal education culminated with a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law, leading to his admission to the state and federal courts in Massachusetts. Since joining the Massachusetts Bar Association in 1975, he has been a staunch advocate in divorce cases and other civil litigation.
Mr. Witmer's contributions extend beyond his legal practice into various legal activities. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and has served as the president of its Massachusetts Chapter. As a founding member and past president of the Massachusetts Family and Probate American Inn of Court, his influence is far-reaching. His legal acumen and ethical standards have earned him an AV Preeminent* peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell, and since 1989, he has been recognized in Naifeh and Smith’s "The Best Lawyers in America."
Passionate about nurturing future legal talent, Mr. Witmer has shared his wisdom by teaching trial and appellate advocacy skills to emerging attorneys and participating in numerous educational panels and seminars. Driven by a commitment to community service, he also co-founded and served many years as president of the New England Personality Disorder Association, Inc. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to reducing stigma and providing support and education for those affected by personality disorders and other mental health conditions.
