Ryan Tivnan

A senior partner at McMahon & Tivnan, PC, who represents estates, businesses and individuals, Ryan Tivnan manages cases in the Boston, Massachusetts, metropolitan area. His practice focus includes the following matters: complex tax disputes, state and IRS tax matters, tax litigation and civil tax controversy. Working with clients in both state and federal settings, he offers examination and audits, submissions of offers, currency conversions, calculation of correct tax liability and experience with foreign bank accounts.

Mr. Tivnan attended The University of New Hampshire, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science with a minor in English. He then attended law school at Suffolk University Law School, where he obtained his Juris Doctor. At Boston University School of Law, he graduated with a master’s in taxation law.

Admitted to practice in the state of Massachusetts, he is also admitted to practice before the United States Court of Federal Claims, the United States Tax Court and the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Mr. Tivnan also spent a year with Boston University School of Law’s Graduate Tax Program as a teaching assistant in the Practice and Procedures Course.

At Norfolk Probate and Family Court, Mr. Tivnan worked as a legal intern where he analyzed estate assets, and drafted and researched memoranda and motions. With almost a decade of experience, he is a trusted tax attorney who has extensive experience in voluntary compliance and disclosures, FBAR requirements and foreign bank accounts, penalty disputes and foreign transaction reporting.
