He then attended Suffolk University Law School, where he obtained his law degree with distinction in business law. In recognition for his service to the community, Schlager received the President's Volunteer Service Award.

Schlager is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is also an active member of the American Bar Association, where he served as vice chair of the Young Lawyers Division's Real Property Committee. Schlager is also a member of the Real Estate Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association, and the Federal Bar Association, among his other professional affiliations.
