Founder of the Massachusetts-based boutique law firm Huggard Law LLC, Stephen G. Huggard is an attorney licensed to practice in the state and federal courts of Massachusetts and Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit. He primarily focuses on white collar criminal defense and also takes on other matters such as commercial litigation, compliance and internal investigations.
A former student of the University of Virginia, Mr. Huggard graduated with distinction with a bachelor's degree in international relations in 1980. Later, he joined the Georgetown University Law Center and earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1983.
Prior to establishing his law firm, Mr. Huggard held various positions in multiple departments and companies. He served as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division for more than 17 years. He also has experience serving as the Chief of the Public Corruption & Special Prosecution Unit and the Economic Crimes Unit at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts. Later in 2005, he became a partner at one of the leading law firms based out of Boston.
With almost four decades of legal experience, Mr. Huggard represents both individuals and businesses alike before the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Moreover, at times, he has conducted many training sessions for publicly traded companies on matters related to Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). He has taken on several complex cases and internal investigations, including being one of the core members of the team investigating the September 11 attack.
In addition to maintaining an active legal practice, Mr. Huggard has authored and co-authored numerous articles. For his innovative legal strategies and immense legal experience, he was named the "White Collar Crime Trailblazer" by the National Law Journal in 2015. He has been a frequent guest lecturer at seminars sponsored by Harvard Law School, Suffolk University Law School, the American Bar Association, Boston University School of Law and the Ernest F. Hollings National Advocacy Center.
Mr. Huggard also holds memberships in the American Bar Association and the Criminal Law Section of the Boston Bar Association. Furthermore, he was on the board of directors of the Boston Partners in Education, a nonprofit organization that nurtures the growth of students in the public schools of Boston.
