Adam Russell is the founder of Russell Defense Firm in Brighton, Massachusetts, and a seasoned criminal defense attorney known for taking on challenging cases and delivering strong courtroom advocacy. With more than a decade of experience defending clients across Massachusetts, he focuses his practice on serious criminal matters, including OUI/DUI charges, drug offenses and violent crime allegations. He is especially recognized for handling complex cases involving high blood alcohol allegations, accidents, and situations where informants or cooperating witnesses play a central role.
Mr. Russell’s path to the legal profession is anything but conventional. Before law school, he competed as a college basketball player, worked demanding blue collar jobs in Boston and gained experience in the corporate banking world. These experiences shaped his work ethic, resilience and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Maine while competing in NCAA men’s varsity basketball, then went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. While still in law school, he became deeply involved with the National College for DUI Defense, laying the foundation for a practice focused on sophisticated OUI defense from the very start of his career.
Since his admission to the bar in 2010, Mr. Russell has secured notable outcomes for clients in both Eastern and Western Massachusetts. His commitment to continued legal education includes advanced training through nationally recognized criminal defense organizations, and he regularly works to stay ahead of evolving legal and scientific issues in criminal cases. He has also shared his knowledge through professional presentations to fellow attorneys.
Mr. Russell deliberately limits his caseload to ensure each client receives focused, personalized representation. He is particularly attentive to cases involving mental health or substance-related concerns, balancing compassion with direct, practical guidance. His motivation to defend individuals accused of stigmatized offenses is deeply personal, rooted in early experiences that revealed how quickly assumptions can replace fairness in the justice system.
Mr. Russell is admitted to practice in Massachusetts state courts and the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts and is an active member of multiple criminal defense organizations.

- In 2015, approximately 535 OUI cases across Massachusetts were consolidated and thousands of others were stayed pending decision of Daubert-Lanigan challenges to the reliability of Draeger Alcotest 9510 test results. This distinguished panel of Cyrus Chung, Esq., Anne Goldbach, Esq. and Adam C. Russell, Esq. will catalog the issues raised by that consolidation, clarify Hon. Robert A. Brennan’s rulings upon those issues in Commonwealth v. Ananias, and outline the options counsel on both sides are now facing. Prosecutors and Judges are encouraged to attend this non-adversarial, objective panel discussion to be followed by a Q & A session. Attorney Adam C. Russell is an aggressive OUI and criminal defense lawyer from Boston. Attorney Russell has a private practice and proudly serves Suffolk Lawyers for Justice, Inc. in Dorchester. Adam C. Russell has a reputation across Suffolk, Middlesex, and Worcester counties for taking OUI cases to trial despite high breath test results and car accidents., Speaker, Demystifying the Blockbuster Breathalyzer Case - Commonwealth v.
