Steven A. Abreu

Steve Abreu helps in-house trademark and patent counsel for large internationally known companies, entrepreneurs, small to medium sized business owners, and growing brands to clear, register, and defend trademarks with a pragmatic, business-minded approach. His clients span universities, world famous footwear companies, pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies, finance and banking institutions, and manufacturers in the pharma/biotech research space. Steve also counsels foreign applicants seeking U.S. protection through Madrid-based filings. The throughline in his work is clarity: plain-English guidance, right-sized deliverables, and timelines that match business cadence.

Prior to founding Abreu Karol LLC, Steve served as Partner and Chair of the Trademark Group for a well-known Boston-based intellectual property boutique law firm.

Experience

Steve has filed and prosecuted thousands of U.S. trademark applications, and regularly advises on international strategy. He represents clients before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) and in federal court, and has coordinated international oppositions before administrative bodies in Europe, Australia, and Asia. Beyond prosecution and enforcement, he advises on trademark and copyright licensing, including cross-market promotional programs, and helps startups and small businesses set up practical IP foundations.
