John McNamara, a founding partner of Lane McNamara LLP, concentrates his practice in construction law and litigation, suretyship, insurance defense, and employment law. He takes a client-centered approach to understand all aspects of the client’s business in order to appropriately advise clients.

John has received peer recognition from a variety of sources.  He has been selected to the Massachusetts Super Lawyers list multiple times and in every year since 2016.  He has also been awarded an AV Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest available rating for legal ability and professional ethics.  John has also been selected for Top Lawyers, as published in the Boston Globe, and he is a Charter Fellow of the Construction Lawyers Society of America.  He also serves as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association on construction disputes.

John is an experienced trial lawyer, having tried numerous cases before juries and judges.  He has also arbitrated and mediated many construction cases in many forums.  Additionally, John has appeared before the Massachusetts Appeals Court, The Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts, The United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  John has argued more than fifty (50) construction bid protests before the Office of the Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

John has written and spoken extensively on construction law for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Aspen Law & Business, Lorman Education, The Associated Builders & Contractors, The Massachusetts Bar Association, and the National Business Institute.  

A graduate of Worcester State University (B.A., summa cum laude, 1987), John earned his law degree from the Catholic University Columbus School of Law (J.D. 1990). He was a Note and Comment Editor for the Catholic University Law Review, 1989-1990.  John was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1990.  He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1991.
