John R. Cavanaugh

John R. Cavanaugh is one of the principal attorneys at Clarkin & Phillips, P.C. From the firm's office in Wellesley, Massachusetts, he focuses his practice on business transactions as well as complex civil litigation. Admitted to practice in Massachusetts, Mr. Cavanaugh is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Mr. Cavanaugh's company and individual clients are located primarily in the Greater Boston metropolitan area. In his nonlitigation practice, he provides businesses with advice and counsel on transactional matters, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, shareholder issues, and employment matters. Mr. Cavanaugh also regularly prepares and reviews a variety of business-related contracts. In addition to established companies, he counts among his clients entrepreneurs who are planning on launching a new venture. At the outset, Mr. Cavanaugh helps them to determine the most advantageous form of legal entity that the company should operate under, and he thereafter provides advice and counsel to management. His civil litigation cases have included contract breaches, shareholder and partnership disputes, unfair competition, and deceptive trade practice claims.

Mr. Cavanaugh attended Babson College in Wellesley as an undergraduate, and he received a Bachelor of Science in finance and investments with distinction in 1987. He then went on to pursue his legal education at Boston University School of Law, and he was awarded his Juris Doctor cum laude in 1991. After he graduated, Mr. Cavanaugh was an attorney at a Boston firm for several years before joining Clarkin & Phillips, P.C.
