Kurt E. Schnelz

Attorney Kurt E. Schnelz is a Principal Shareholder at Schnelz Wells, P.C. in Birmingham, Michigan and practices solely in the area of Family Law.  Mr. Schnelz represents clients in the Detroit Metropolitan area and throughout the State of Michigan.  In the area of Family Law, Mr. Schnelz has significant experience with alimony, child support, custody, marital dissolution, divorce, marital property division, paternity, prenuptial agreements, same-sex family law, spousal support, parenting time and a complicated litigation involving business divorce and professional practices.  Mr. Schnelz has litigated at the trial and appellate levels and also is trained in alternative dispute methods such as Mediation and Arbitration.

Mr. Schnelz has been licensed to practice law since 1985 and has more than 35 years of experience.  He is admitted in all Michigan Courts, Federal Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Active in the legal community, Mr. Schnelz served on the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners for 15 years and is a past President of the Oakland County Bar Association.  He is also a past President of the Michigan Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and is a Diplomat of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, with membership limited to 100 attorneys in the entire United States.  Mr. Schnelz is also a Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Mr. Schnelz holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Alma College and has a law degree from Michigan State College of Law, formerly Detroit College of Law.  He is listed in the Best Lawyers of America each and every year, the Bar Register Preeminent Lawyers, DB Business of Top Lawyers and Super Lawyers.  Mr. Schnelz has maintained an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell.
