Richard T. Counsman

Richard T. Counsman is an attorney at McKeen & Associates, PC. From the firm's offices in Detroit, Michigan, he provides advice and counsel to clients throughout the state and across the country who have suffered economic and non-economic losses due to the negligent acts or omissions of other parties. Mr. Counsman places a particular emphasis on hospital negligence and other forms of medical malpractice, including lawsuits centered around the delivery process. He also handles cases involving nursing home abuse. He has been successful in obtaining numerous sizable settlements and jury awards on behalf of his plaintiff clients.

Some representative cases that Mr. Counsman and other members of his firm have been involved in have included the largest medical malpractice jury award in state history in a case against a hospital involving an infant who suffered brain damage as a result of emergency room negligence. Another involved negligence on the part of obstetrics personnel that resulted in a jury award of nearly $16 million to the parents of a baby who was born with cerebral palsy after a failure to perform a cesarean section. As an undergraduate, Mr. Counsman attended Kalamazoo College, and he graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts. He then went on to pursue his legal education at what was then known as Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and he was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1985. Mr. Counsman is admitted to practice before all Michigan state courts.
