As an associate at McKeen & Associates, P.C., Steven Hurbis is dedicated to helping others. With only four years with the firm and fresh out of law school, Mr. Hurbis has already had involvement in high-profile malpractice cases. He has served on cases that resulted in a $1.25 million verdict, a $500 million settlement against Michigan State University and a $130 million settlement in which he was second chair. In his time as a lawyer, he has achieved several settlements that resulted in a total of $20 million.
With a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Eastern Michigan University, Mr. Hurbis competed in the EMU Mock Trial Association for three years as an undergraduate. He earned a full tuition scholarship based on his academic success and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law.
Recognized as the Best Overall Advocate in his school’s Trial Team, Mr. Hurbis showed promise and talent in law school. A distinguished student, he earned the Dr. Paul M. Lisneck Excellence in Trial Advocacy and Ethics Award and the Rickert Award for Excellence in Advocacy. He won Trial Advocacy and placed fourth in Moot Court Competitions.
Devoted to those who cannot fight for themselves, Mr. Hurbis became a trial attorney to stand up for their rights. In law school, he had clients in the College of Law’s Civil Litigation and Community Preservation clinic. There, he represented men and women at risk of losing their homes and won a motion that resulted in the largest sanction in clinic history.

- “Greatest lawyers and staffs. The Mckeen and associates took my son’s case 1 week before the statue of limitations expired. Mr. Mckeen and Mr. Hurbis have helped us won our case ( the largest verdict in Michigan) after a 3 weeks long trial. It was a long journey but they accomplished what other law firms could not. Thank you so much for the hard work and dedication with my son’s case. You have taken so much weight off my shoulders now that I know my son will be well taken care for the rest of his life. We really appreciate you and I can not thank you enough. I would highly recommend this team.”, 2018
