J. Paul Janes

J. Paul Janes, an attorney based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has built a respected legal career focusing on several key areas of law. Serving clients from the firm – Gruel Mills Nims & Pylman PLLC, his practice encompasses commercial litigation, insurance litigation, personal injury litigation, automobile no-fault law and medical malpractice. His comprehensive legal background allows him to navigate complex legal landscapes effectively, ensuring thorough representation for his clients.

Mr. Janes’ academic journey in law began with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1987, followed by a Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School Of Law in 1990. During his time at law school, he was a senior staff member of the Law Review, a role that honed his research and legal writing skills.

Throughout his career, Mr. Janes has been actively involved with numerous professional affiliations. He is a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association and a Fellow of the Justice Foundation of West Michigan. His commitment to the legal community is further demonstrated by his role in the Grand Rapids Federal Bar Association and his ongoing appointment to the Attorney Grievance Commission by the Michigan Supreme Court since 2019. 

Additionally, Mr. Janes has served on the Michigan State Bar and has been involved with both the American Association for Justice and the Michigan Association for Justice, where he was a former board member.

Mr. Janes’ legal acumen has not gone unnoticed. He has been consistently selected to The Best Lawyers in America. His peers have also selected him for inclusion in Leading Lawyers, recognizing him as among Michigan's top 5% of licensed attorneys. Beyond his professional endeavors, he is deeply committed to his community. He has served as a Religious Education teacher at St. Stephen’s Parish and remains an active supporter of the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation and Sports Boosters. His dedication extends to his alma mater as well, where he is a life member of the Michigan State University Alumni Association.
