David J. Shea

As the managing partner at Shea Law, PLLC, in Southfield, Michigan, David J. Shea represents clients statewide in business and securities litigation. He counsels corporations, shareholders and investors through contract disputes, partnership conflicts and regulatory enforcement actions. Operating in both state and federal courts, he handles matters involving corporate governance, financial fraud and commercial liability. His practice focuses on resolving institutional conflicts, protecting corporate assets and navigating statutory compliance issues to secure financial outcomes for his clients.

After graduating from Albion College with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and history, Mr. Shea pursued a degree in law at Detroit Mercy Law. Upon receiving his Juris Doctor in 1987, he earned licensure to practice law in Michigan in 1988. Starting off his career at a large law firm, he served Ford Motor Company as national counsel for the company, representing them in complex product liability lawsuits. He and the team represented prominent national manufacturers in toxic tort cases involving asbestos, cobalt, benzene and formaldehyde.

Mr. Shea partnered with former Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox to secure a $470 million settlement for the University of Michigan students abused by Dr. Robert Anderson. Appointed lead counsel in a federal class action, he also won a $40 million settlement for Oakland County property owners facing unconstitutional tax foreclosures. He served as co-lead counsel in a similar $120 million lawsuit against Wayne County and was appointed on the discovery committee by co-lead counsel for the historic Flint Water Crisis class action.

In 2007, Mr. Shea founded his current firm and, throughout the years, has innovated an online model making estate planning accessible to all Michigan residents, ensuring everyday families can easily secure practical, vital protection for their futures. He was included in the Top 100 Attorneys list by the American Trial Lawyers Association and also received an AV Preeminent* peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.
