Michelle M. Kniess

As the firm's founder and managing attorney, Michelle M. Kniess brings nearly 20 years of family law experience to Mosaic Family Law & Mediation. Michelle has worked in large law firms and small law firms, and owned a boutique family law firm prior to opening Mosaic Family Law & Mediation. As a long-divorced mother of two busy children, she has personally navigated the co-parenting dance. Her experience, coupled with her education, makes her uniquely qualified to help clients protect their finances and relationships in this difficult process, both in what they pursue and how they pursue it. 

She has led numerous trials and motion hearings over the years, in Minnesota and Wisconsin. However, she has helped many more clients resolve their dispute by agreement. Divorce is hard. Divorce by trial is even harder. Michelle understands that clients need safety, dignity, privacy, and certainty to get through the divorce process well. She advises and supports her clients as they navigate a system that can pose a threat to all of these needs. Michelle helps clients understand the decisions they need to make, and how the available options can impact their case, their family, their finances, and the overall financial cost of the proceeding.

Michelle earned her B.S. degree in Business Management from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, and later graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School with her Juris Doctorate. She is admitted to practice law in Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. Ms. Kniess recently earned her M.A. in Theological Studies from Bethel Seminary.  Through her experience and education, she champions the power of clients to focus on what matters to them, maintain their privacy as much as possible, and navigate a path forward with an eye toward cost-effective efficiency.
