Ms. Tanabe has been admitted to practice in Minnesota since 2007, and she is also admitted to practice in New York and before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

    In February 2020, the Small Business Reorganization Act of 2019 went into effect. Also known as Subchapter V, this allows certain small businesses and individuals that have debts that in the aggregate are lower than the specified maximum amount to file a streamlined petition under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. Ms. Tanabe has been appointed by the U.S. Trustee Program to administer cases that are filed under that section. She has also served as an indenture trustee for the holders of bonds that have been issued by companies and that have gone into default, and she has additionally represented other secured creditors in bankruptcy proceedings. Ms. Tanabe’s work has additionally encompassed post-bankruptcy matters, including asset liquidations and case administration.

    Ms. Tanabe sits on the Bankruptcy Practice Committee of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Minnesota, and she serves as an adjunct professor at the University of St. Thomas School of Law, where she teaches courses in bankruptcy. She is an editor of the Bankruptcy Bulletin, which is a publication of the Minnesota State Bar Association, and she frequently leads continuing legal education seminars on topics related to her practice area.
