Mr. Smith attended the Mitchell Hamline School of Law, where he spent considerable time honing his legal talents at the Mitchell Hamline Law Review – serving as the assistant editor. Receiving his Juris Doctor summa cum laude in 2016, he was also awarded CALI Awards for his academic prowess in criminal law, real estate transactions and accounting and finance survey. He obtained his license to practice in Minnesota after graduating from law school. Mr. Smith represented employees in workers' compensation matters at a Minneapolis law firm following law school. He went on to represent employers and insurers in workers' compensation for several years. In 2022, Mr. Smith started a Minneapolis law practice to return to representing employees in workers' compensation litigation.
