Ruta Johnsen

Ruta Johnsen is an attorney at Nancy Zalusky Berg, LLC. Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she focuses her practice exclusively on family law matters, providing a wide variety of services for her clients throughout the state. Ms. Johnsen's primary area involves people who are facing the end of their marriages and who are in many cases struggling to reach an accord on such divorce-related issues as the division of complex assets and debts, child custody and visitation, alimony and child support. While she is a forceful courtroom advocate, she will sometimes suggest that some of these matters be handled through negotiations or mediation.

Ms. Johnsen has extensive experience in other family law matters as well. She assists clients who are seeking the enforcement of or modifications to existing alimony, custody and visitation, and child support orders. She has handled paternity disputes as well as international child abductions governed by the Hague Convention of 25 October 1980 on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. Ms. Johnsen's particular interest in children has led to her work on cases involving the termination of parental rights and matters involving child protective services.

Majoring in psychology, Ms. Johnsen attended the University of Alaska Anchorage as an undergraduate, and she received a Bachelor of Arts in 2007. After working in the child protection and juvenile justice areas, she decided to pursue a legal career, and to that end, she enrolled at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in Minneapolis. Ms. Johnsen was awarded her Juris Doctor in 2016, and she is admitted to practice in Minnesota as well as before the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.
