Zane Umsted

Zane Umsted is an attorney at the Madia Law LLC, which is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He focuses his practice on civil rights, employment law – plaintiff, medical malpractice and appeals. He uses his extensive experience for the benefit of his clients and upholds their best interests and rights.

In both state and federal courts, Mr. Umsted mainly handles research and writing for both trial and appellate matters. His role includes investigation into complex legal matters and formulation of compelling arguments on behalf of his clients. An ardent advocate for social justice, he is both a trustworthy and meticulous lawyer. It is his goal to ensure that the court understands his clients' story.

During his time as senior note and comments editor of the Iowa Law Review and recipient of national distinction for his work, Mr. Umsted was a law student at the University of Iowa. While in law school, he interned for public defense offices in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as well as Charlotte, North Carolina. He graduated with Order of the Coif honors. He received his bachelor’s degree with highest distinction from the University of Iowa as well.

Following his graduation from law school, Mr. Umsted clerked for the Honorable Linda Reade in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa for a period of two years. He joined Madia Law LLC in 2017. He is an active member of the Federal Bar Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association and the National Employment Lawyers Association.

In addition to his work in the legal field, Mr. Umsted is quite involved in his community. While in law school, he volunteered with a number of organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, and a legal aid group and a homeless shelter in Iowa City. He has also helped care for injured birds at these locations.
