Details
As the principal attorney at her law firm, Marlene S. Garvis serves as a dedicated consultant and advocate for employers and health care professionals in the Twin Cities metro area and throughout Minnesota. Her impressive background led Ms. Garvis to a law practice that ranges from professional licensing and disciplinary proceedings to consultation on health care issues and employment law.
Ms. Garvis earned her Juris Doctor from what is now known as Mitchell Hamline School of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Before her legal education, she received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the St. Catherine University, and she earned a master’s degree in nursing from Boston University. Ms. Garvis had a successful career as a nurse before starting her career as an attorney. Her varied professional experiences give her the breadth of knowledge to advise clients not only as a lawyer, but she can also advise clients as a former health care professional with insider knowledge.
Before deciding to concentrate on her own practice, Ms. Garvis was a partner at the law firm of Jardine, Logan and O'Brien in Minnesota. She also held many leadership positions in that practice, including chair of the Health Law Practice Group, the Firm Development Committee, and the Mentoring, Library and Technology Committees.
As an former adjunct faculty member at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing and as a frequent speaker on health law and employment issues, Ms. Garvis regularly reinforces her reputation as a knowledgeable and dedicated attorney. Held in high regard by her peers, she holds a rating of AV Preeminent* through Martindale-Hubbell. In order to continuously grow her practice, she holds membership in multiple legal organizations, such as the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association and The American Association of Nurse Attorneys.
*AV®, AV Preeminent®, Martindale-Hubbell Distinguished and Martindale-Hubbell Notable are certification marks used under license in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies.
