Russell R. Cherne

Russell Richard Cherne is a family law and criminal defense attorney in St. Cloud, Minnesota. A partner at Pennington, Cherne, Gaarder & Geiger Hagen, PLLC, Mr. Cherne represents clients in Benton and Sterns counties and throughout central Minnesota.

A skilled attorney with 20 years of experience, Mr. Cherne handles all types of family law matters, including those involving divorce, adoption, child support, custody and paternity. He also takes on criminal defense cases, defending Minnesota residents facing a misdemeanor or felony charge. He also helps individuals and businesses with business litigation, employment law, estate planning and personal injury. His estate planning experience included actions involving conservatorships, guardianships, powers of attorney, probate, trusts and wills.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Cherne has been involved in many significant cases resulting in successful results for his clients. He is committed to providing exceptional representation to everyone he serves.

Outside of the office, Mr. Cherne participates in several professional organizations. He is a member of the Stearns-Benton Bar Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association and the John E. Simonett Inn of Court for the 7th Judicial District. He is involved in volunteer work with Albany Jaycees, Ducks Unlimited, St. Cloud Area Sertoma Club and Sertoma, Inc.

Mr. Cherne received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Minnesota and earned his law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law, graduating with high distinction. He holds a license to practice law before all Minnesota state courts and the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.
