Details
Sam V. Calvert focuses his practice primarily on bankruptcy matters, but he is also experienced in title examination, boundary disputes and other real estate transactions and estate planning. He has been certified as a specialist in real estate law by the Minnesota State Bar Association, and he has been admitted to practice before all Minnesota state courts since 1978. Sam is located in St. Cloud, and he represents clients throughout the central part of the state.
While Mr. Calvert currently concentrates on helping his consumer clients who have become overwhelmed by their seemingly insurmountable financial obligations, he has also represented businesses in their search for debt relief. His previous experience has included his serving as a trustee under Chapter 7 and Chapter 12 bankruptcy, the latter of which is applicable to family farmers and fisherman who have a regular source of income, and he has also advised companies on how Chapter 11 bankruptcy can help them reorganize their debts while remaining in business.
Mr. Calvert has extensive experience in counseling people on the process of a Chapter 13 bankruptcy filing. This, too, is designed for debtors who have a steady source of income, and it involves the preparation and submission to the court of a proposed repayment plan that generally lasts from three to five years. There are limitations on the amount of unsecured and secured debt to be met in order to qualify, and Mr. Calvert explains those as well as the other eligibility requirements.
Some of his clients who do not qualify for Chapter 13 can file under Chapter 7, and Mr. Calvert explains the ramifications of doing so. A graduate of what used to be known as William Mitchell College of Law, he holds an “Excellent” peer review rating through Avvo.
