Arthur K. Shaffer

Arthur K. Shaffer is an intellectual property litigator, patent attorney and shareholder at McDowell Rice Smith & Buchanan, P.C., in Kansas City, Missouri. With over 20 years of experience, he has represented inventors, entrepreneurs and businesses in Kansas and throughout the country. He is highly experienced in matters of copyright, patent and trademark applications, infringement and litigation.

With a commitment to helping entrepreneurs and businesses promote and protect their patents, trademarks and copyrights, Mr. Shaffer is a member of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association and was a president of the association’s Business Law Section. He is also on the executive committee of the Kansas Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Division and was an inaugural member of the committee.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Physics, Mr. Shaffer graduated from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law with a Juris Doctor. With an electrical, computer and mechanical engineering background, he was employed at various places around the world as a controls engineer before focusing his efforts on the legal system and protecting the intellectual property of others. Throughout his diverse career, he has worked for clients with small businesses to Fortune 500 companies.

Mr. Shaffer is licensed to practice in Kansas, Missouri the District of Columbia and before the Patent and Trademark Office and is passionate about providing his clients with the protection they need in developing and protecting their new products and inventions. Using the experience he gained while working with the government, Mr. Shaffer handles cases before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He allows his clients to focus on financial success while protecting their best interests legally.
