Brendan Lykins is a trial lawyer. His practice is built on one principle: when insurance companies refuse to pay fair value, cases must be prepared for — and taken to — trial.
He has first chaired more than 20 jury trials to verdict in state and federal courts, representing individuals and families harmed by negligence. Brendan prepares every case as if it will be tried, conducting exhaustive discovery, retaining top experts, and building compelling courtroom narratives designed to withstand defense tactics. That preparation consistently positions his clients for strong settlements — and strong verdicts when necessary.
Brendan earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science, with a secondary major in International Studies and a minor in French, from Kansas State University. He then spent more than five years in Seoul, South Korea, teaching at public schools, private academies, and the Seoul National University of Education — an experience that sharpened his communication skills and cross-cultural perspective. He returned to Kansas in 2011 to attend Washburn University School of Law and was admitted to practice in 2013. He is licensed in Kansas and Missouri, the U.S. District Court for Kansas, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, and the Prairie Band Pottawatomie Nation Tribal Court.
Prior to joining DM Injury Law’s Big Case Team, Brendan served as Chief Trial Attorney at a large Midwest personal injury firm, where he secured the firm’s highest jury verdicts in 2019 and 2021. He also developed substantial experience in medical negligence litigation early in his career.
Brendan has been selected to the Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers “Rising Stars” list beginning in 2019 and has been recognized by his peers in Best Lawyers: “Ones to Watch” beginning in 2021.
An active member of the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association (Education Committee), the Kansas Bar Association, and the Wichita Bar Association (Civil Practice Committee), Brendan frequently teaches continuing legal education seminars. He invests heavily in advanced trial training nationwide, including Roger Dodd’s Cross-Examination Clinic, the AAJ Trucking Litigation Seminar, Trial Lawyers University, Sach Oliver’s Deposition Clinic, and John Romano’s Traumatic Brain Injury Seminar. He believes that disciplined, ongoing refinement of advocacy skills is essential to serving clients effectively and strengthening the civil justice system.
Brendan approaches every case with the mindset that preparation wins cases and credibility wins juries. He understands that meaningful results require more than negotiation — they require readiness, resilience, and a willingness to stand in front of twelve citizens and prove the case. For Brendan, trial is not a last resort; it is the standard that drives how every case is built.
