Dakota Britt is a compassionate Team Leader Attorney with Stange Law Firm, PC who can represent clients throughout Kansas City and the surrounding areas from the firm’s Kansas City, MO office location.
Dakota completed his undergraduate degree at Graceland University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice while minoring in Business, English, and Human Services. While there, he was a captain and member of the Graceland wrestling team and earned the Freeman Student-Athlete Award, which is given to the senior varsity athlete with the highest cumulative GPA on each varsity team. He was also Vice President of the Student Senate and Board Member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Dakota earned his Juris Doctorate at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock School of Law. During his time there, he was a full-time representative of the Student Bar Association for multiple years and was a member of the Barrister’s Ball Committee. He is currently licensed to practice in the State of Missouri.
Prior to joining Stange Law Firm, Dakota participated in the Bowen School of Law Litigation Clinic getting valuable experience in family law. He drafted a wide variety of documents relating to domestic relations and guardianship matters, as well as a variety of correspondences including legal memorandums, closing memorandums, and status updates of pending cases. He worked closely with clients who were going through divorce and family law matters. He then moved on to work as a Law Clerk at a firm in Little Rock, Arkansas that worked on numerous cases relating to domestic relations, contracts, personal injury, property, probate, and criminal law. While there he assisted in depositions, client meetings, and trial preparations.
While not assisting clients, Dakota enjoys participating in a variety of different sports. He currently competes in powerlifting and also enjoys hiking.

Verdicts / Settlements (Case Results)
- Third-Party Custody – Represented paternal aunt in a third-party custody matter, in which both parents were abusive and had a history of drug use that placed the minor child in significant harm. Obtained a Judgment in favor of the client providing her sole legal and physical custody while limiting visitation with both parents to 2 therapeutically supervised visits per month. Each parent was also ordered to pay child support to the paternal aunt., 2023
- Enforcement of Foreign Judgment – Represented Father in a contested UCCJEA matter. Mother had taken the children from Texas to Missouri and failed to return the children to the Father as required in the Texas Judgment for Custody. After the foreign judgment was registered, Mother filed a Motion for Modification in Missouri and Texas. Presented arguments to the Court regarding the UCCJEA, specifically that Jurisdiction was appropriate in Texas as they made the initial custody determination and the Missouri case should be dismissed. The children were returned to Father and the case was ultimately dismissed., 2022
- Writ of Habeas Corpus – Represented Father in a modification matter in which the Mother had picked up the minor child for her parenting time and absconded to Texas in violation of the party's prior Judgment. Mother did not provide any information to Father regarding her whereabouts and made it clear she would not return with the minor child. Filed a Writ of Habeas Corpus with the Court, in which we successfully obtained an order requiring Mother to return the child to the Father at a hearing. Mother was ordered supervised visitation only due to her actions., 2021

Other Outstanding Achievements
- Dakota has prepared and tried multiple legal briefs regarding issues related to the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA). The UCCJEA governs which state has proper jurisdiction to hear custody cases when the parties live in different states, or when a party has relocated with the minor children. In doing so, he has been able to help clients keep their case ongoing in the appropriate state in order to be reunited with their children.
