After graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1977, Mr. Leyh earned his master's degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1979. He then returned to his alma mater and obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1983. After working as a college professor for several years, he decided to enter the legal profession, and he obtained his Juris Doctor magna cum laude from Indiana University School of Law in 1991.

- Leyh has devoted a significant portion of his time over the last decade to representing Missouri homeowners and consumers on a pro bono basis, as circumstances warranted.  2020
- Leyh represents a Missouri class of persons who received a debt collection letter from a Kansas City debt collector attempting to collect a debt sold on the secondary debt market. 2020
- Leyh was appointed class counsel on behalf of the tenants of Ruskin Place Apartments in Kansas City, Missouri in a case alleging deception and breach of the implied warranty of uninhabitability. 2019
- In February of 2017, Leyh was appointed class counsel representing a class of Missouri residents whose property was foreclosed by a Missouri Successor Trustee.
- Leyh completed his Ph.D. in Political Science, emphasizing political theory, in 1983. Subsequently, Leyh taught political theory and constitutional law at Illinois Wesleyan University. He received tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor before leaving for law school at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Leyh graduated magna cum laude from law school in 27 months.
- On September 15, 2020, Leyh's low-income class action tenants obtained Final Judgment against their landlord based on the uninhabitability of their homes. The Final Judgment awarded actual and punitive damages in the approximate amount of $52 million.  , 2020
- On November 29, 2021 Leyh was appointed class counsel to represent hundreds of low-income tenants regarding their claims for the uninhabitability of their homes. The case is currently pending in Jackson County, Missouri and is scheduled for trial in February of 2023., 2021
- On March 11, 2020, Leyh was appointed class counsel on behalf of all Missouri citizens who received a debt collection letter from a Kansas City debt collector since 2007. The case seeks relief for Missouri consumers whose debts were sold on the secondary debt market. The Order certifying the class followed two remands from federal court. Subsequent to the class certification the court denied the debt collector's Motion for Judgment on the Pleadings. Â The case is currently in discovery.
- Leyh filed a trespass and statutory fraud case relating to the property preservation industry. The petition alleged theft, trespass and the destruction of personal property by Wells Fargo, National Field Representatives, EW Holdings and TruAssets, and their agents. Following litigation and as trial approached, confidential settlements were reached with Wells Fargo, National Field Representatives and EW Holdings. The case involving TruAssets is on appeal. 2019
- Leyh obtained a class certification Order on behalf of tenants of a Kansas City apartment complex. The apartment complex is a slum and the apartments are uninhabitable. On June 30, 2020, the trial court entered an Order holding defendants in contempt of court, striking defendants' pleadings, entering default Judgment in favor of the class, prohibiting defendants from participating in the trial on damages, fining defendants $7,500 per day until the defendants comply with the court's Orders, and awarding Leyh attorney's fees and costs. A trial on damages is expected in 2020.
- In 2017 Leyh tried a case on behalf of a class of building owners in Kansas City that produced a Judgment of approximately $10 million, plus approximately $4 million in attorney fees. The case was affirmed by the court of appeals for the Western District of Missouri and reversed by the Supreme Court of Missouri.
- In Holm v. Wells Fargo, Leyh's client won a $3.25 million judgment following trial. The Judgment was affirmed by the court of appeals in the Western District of Missouri and was reversed by the Supreme Court of Missouri. Although reversing the Judgment as to Wells Fargo's right to jury trial, the Supreme Court of Missouri affirmed the trial court's wrongful foreclosure and sanctions Judgment. The case was remanded for a limited trial on compensatory and punitive damages only. Shortly thereafter a confidential settlement was reached. 2015
- In two separate state court actions for wrongful foreclosure and quiet title, plaintiff won summary judgment setting aside foreclosure sales as void and quieting title in the name of homeowner. Both courts held that the standard Missouri Deed of Trust limits the right to invoke the power of sale, and right to appoint a substitute trustee, to the "Lender." When a non-Lender servicer appoints a substitute trustee and declares erroneously that it is the "owner" of the note, the appointment is void. A sale conducted by a non-trustee violates the Deed of Trust and must be set aside as void. 2012
- In February of 2010, I defended a major league baseball player wrongfully accused of sexual assault and, subsequently, of breaching an alleged settlement agreement. Plaintiff alleged that the defendant agreed to pay $100,000 for her silence. The trial court held that no such agreement was ever made prior to opening day in 2007. Defendant's initial interest in settlement was limited to maintaining confidentiality through opening day of the major league baseball season in 2007. According to major league baseball's collective bargaining agreement, a player with a non-guaranteed contract is entitled to full salary if he is on the opening day roster.
