J. Zachary Bickel is a partner in The Robertson Law Group assisting clients in all phases of litigation at trial and on appeal by indentifying, protecting, and preserving legal issues in all types of civil litigation in state and federal courts. Zach’s practice involves researching, reviewing and drafting pleadings for trial in conjunction with trial counsel, assisting in the drafting of jury instructions for trial, attending and arguing at pre-trial conferences and trial as appellate counsel, drafting post-trial motions and presenting appellate writs, briefs, and oral arguments to the higher courts on appeal. Zach has dealt with mutliple complex, mutli-million dollar cases on appeal. 

Zach has been singled out as a Missouri "Up & Coming Lawyer" by Missouri Lawyers Weekly, voted by his peers multiple times to be a Super Lawyer "Rising Star" and Super Lawyer, voted by his peers to be included in Kansas City Business Journal's "Best of the Bar" multiple years, and inducted as one of the youngest Fellows of The Missouri Bar Foundation.  

Zach was elected by The Missouri Bar Board of Governors to serve a six-year term on the Judicial Performance Evaluation Committee for Appellate Courts. This committee serves to evaluate and recommend Supreme Court Judges and Intermediate Appellate Court Judges who seek retention on the bench under the Missouri Non-Partisan Court Plan. 

For many years, Zach was appointed and served the Missouri Bar Presidents as Chair of the Missouri Bar's largest committee, Civil Practice and Procedure. He was also appointed by The Missouri Supreme Court to the Ad Hoc Committee to Study Court Costs in Missouri. This committee was tasked with clarifying the existing state of the law regarding court costs, fees, and surcharges. 

Zach was awarded the Up & Coming Lawyer in Missouri. This award honors lawyers with 10 years or less of experience who have achieved extraordinary positions of leadership and success in their practice. He has also been awarded Kansas City's Best of the Bar for Appellate Practice. An award bestowed on Kansas City area lawyers who excel in their respective fields of practice.  

Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers also has recognized Zach multiple times as an Appellate Law "Rising Star" and Super Lawyer. This peer-nominated and peer-reviewed distinction recognizes the best attorneys who are 40 or under with no more than 2.5% of the applicable lawyers in the combined states of Missouri and Kansas included. 

Zach was one of two Kansas City attorneys inducted into the Missouri Bar Leadership Academy, a highly selective group comprised of 13 young lawyers from across the state that are prepared to assume future leadership roles within The Missouri Bar.

Zach is very active in The Missouri Bar. Aside from serving for many years in the past as the Chair of The Missouri Bar Civil Practice and Procedure Committee, he enjoys moderating and lecturing at The Bar's CLE seminars throughout the state. Additionally, Zach has authored and edited multiple publications for The Missouri Bar on Appellate Practice, Civil Procedure, and Rules of Evidence.

Zach is a 2006 graduate of the University Of Missouri School Of Law, where he graduated with honors (Order of the Barrister). He also received the University of Missouri School of Law’s Roscoe Anderson Award for Excellence in Advocacy, awarded to a law student who excelled in trial advocacy. 

Zach also enjoys giving back to his community. He was elected to the Board of Directors of Kansas City's Jackson County CASA - the largest Missouri CASA organization that serves as the voice of the child in abuse and/or neglect cases. In that capacity he has served as a member of the executive board, and now is the current Chairman of the Board, leading one of Jackson County CASA's most successful years to date. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Crossroads Community Association of Kansas City, Missouri and also is also Chairman of the Crossroads Arts District Connector Program. 

Prior to becoming a partner at The Robertson Law Group, Zach was a civil trial lawyer in Columbia, Missouri focusing on both plaintiff and defense work. While in Columbia, he devoted much of his spare time to civic and charitable organizations, including serving as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for The Phoenix Programs, a drug counseling and rehabilitation center that has served the Mid-Missouri region for over 30 years. Zach continues to give through community service involvement in several Kansas City area charities.

Zach is licensed to practice law in Missouri, and has served pro hac vice in cases throughout the country. He is a member of The Missouri Bar, Fellow of The Missouri Bar Foundation, immediate past and present Chairman of The Missouri Bar Civil Practice and Procedure Committee, a sustaining member of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA), KCMBA Appellate Committee member, KCMBA Appellate Rules Subcommittee member, KCMBA Young Lawyers Section member, Young Professionals Board of Legal Aid of Western Missouri member, Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers member, Defense Research Institute member, and member of the Missouri Bar Leadership Academy.
