Attorney Profile

A former Marine Corps Judge Advocate and defense attorney, Nick A. Cutrera is founder of the Cutrera Law Firm and handles cases of personal injury, divorce and traffic accidents. A trial attorney at heart, Mr. Cutrera is prepared to bring any dispute before a jury if it cannot be settled out of court. He represents individuals, business owners and entrepreneurs in the Kansas City metropolitan area, including Kansas City and Lee’s Summit.

In seven of the last nine years, Mr. Cutrera has been given the Best of the Bar distinction by the Kansas City Business Journal. He has an Avvo “Superb” rating and received a Naval and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. While serving at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, North Carolina, as the Senior Defense Counsel, he gained extensive trial experience and then spent years working for one of General Electric’s large insurance companies. During that time, he defended lawsuits in many states but found his true passion was in arguing for an individual before a judge and jury.

At the University of Missouri, Mr. Cutrera earned a Bachelor of Science and graduated magna cum laude. He then attended the University of Missouri School of Law, was a member of the Missouri Law Review and graduated in the top 15 percent of his class.

Mr. Cutrera also has experience with a premier law firm in their tort litigation group where he had the opportunity to handle matters of tort litigation such as complex products liability for some of the largest companies in America. The experience and knowledge he earned throughout his career is now combined to obtain successful results for his clients.

  • $165,000 settlement.  An accident in a golf cart led a young teenager to spend her summer in surgery, but it also led to a $165,000 settlement.  Emily K. Davis, then 14, was participating in the Junior Golf 2009 event at the Lakewood Oaks Golf Club. An instructor allowed Davis to drive a golf cart, even though club policy prohibits anyone without a license from driving a cart. The instructor also failed to tell her how to operate it.  Davis rolled the cart down a hill, injuring her leg severely enough that the bone and tendons were visible in the wound. She suffered a comminuted but nondisplaced fracture of her right foot. She also suffered a 10-by-15 centimeter soft tissue defect on the anterolateral aspect of her right ankle. The wound was over the right malleolus and went down to the level of cuboid bone.  The plaintiff underwent four surgical debridements and wounds irrigations and received a skin graft. Her injuries resulted in a permeant scar on her ankle.  Attorney Nick Cutrera said that accident forced his client, a varsity softball player, to miss her freshman season. She really lost her whole summer, he said. The case went to mediation before attorney William H. Sanders Jr.
  • $170,543 (verdict plus interest) received in Rainbow Air, Inc. v. Falcon Helicopter, Inc., et. al.  On June 21, 2002 Rainbow Air, Inc. purchased a 1989 McDonnell Douglas model MD369E helicopter that Defendants represented was a "parts bird" with no damage history.  In fact, Defendants knew at the time it was a helicopter they had comprised from two "salvaged" helicopters with extensive damage history from crashes.  Rainbow purchased the helicopter from  Falcon for a price of $435,000.00 in reliance upon representations made by Falcon's principal owner to representatives of Rainbow that the helicopter had never been damaged, that its logbooks were complete and accurate and that it was airworthy according to all FAA requirements. Rainbow sued for its "benefit of the bargain" damages and won on all counts.
