Attorney David L. Steelman is the managing partner of Steelman, Gaunt & Horsefield, Attorneys at Law, located in Rolla, Missouri. Serving clients throughout Phelps County and the rest of Mid-Missouri, Mr. Steelman focuses his practice primarily on business litigation, plaintiff personal injury cases and general civil litigation.
A tenacious and aggressive litigator with nearly 40 years of legal experience, Mr. Steelman has recovered millions of dollars on behalf of his clients for their claims involving trucking and railroad accidents, defective products, medical malpractice and utility negligence. He has also achieved notable success in his handling of mass torts and class actions, and he has advocated strongly on behalf of victims of sexual abuse, rape and other violent crimes.
A Missouri native, Mr. Steelman graduated summa cum laude from the University of Missouri with a degree in economics. He then attended the University of Missouri School of Law, where he graduated cum laude, first in his class, in 1978 and was a member of both the Order of the Coif and The Phi Beta Kappa Society. He also served as editor for the Missouri Law Review.
In 1978, The Missouri Bar admitted him to practice, and he also practices before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri.
Widely regarded as one of the top personal injury and business litigation attorneys in the region, Mr. Steelman was listed in the 2013 Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers by Martindale-Hubbell, and he has received several other awards and honors for his impeccable professionalism and exceptional legal service.
Active in his legal community, he is a member of the Phelps County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He also served with the Missouri General Assembly, ultimately becoming minority floor leader when he was only 27 years old.
