Special Licenses/Certifications:

  • After a rigorous application process, I was placed on the CJA Panel for federal court in the Eastern District of Missouri. The CJA Panel attorneys handle cases by appointment by the federal court when the Federal Defender's Office has a conflict and cannot ethically represent a defendant. This panel allows me to represent indigent defendants in federal court against many serious charges including: drug conspiracies, health care fraud, tax fraud, racketeering, robbery, carjacking, and Hobbs Act violations

Bar/Professional Activity:

  • Colorado, 2017
  • Member, National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys

Pro bono/Community Service:

  • I volunteer my time for up to and including three full days every Fourth of July Weekend to assist in the production of Fair St. Louis. Fair St. Louis is a three-day celebration centered around concert acts and fireworks each night. It is free for patrons to attend, and often has over 250,000 people attend each year, 2017

Scholarly Lectures/Writings:

  • Authored and published the book "Fear of the Unknown - A Guide to Surviving a DWI in Missouri." The book was not written as a treatise, but instead as a practical informational guide to Missouri DWI law for people facing DWI charges or for attorneys who do not practice in the area of DWI defense. The book covers areas including: field sobriety testing, chemical tests, driver's license ramifications of refusing a chemical test, and general legal strategy to combatting the most common issues that arise in DWI cases, 2016
  • I spoke on the subject of DWI defense to newly sworn in lawyers at this Continuing Legal Education Event. This event covered many different practice areas, and I was invited to speak on the practical aspects of representing people charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Speaker, Stepping Up and Stepping Out, Bar Association Of Metropolitan St. Louis, 2015
  • I was invited to speak as part of an attorney panel to a Washington University in St. Louis Law School class. I spoke as a representative of small and solo firms, and also as a criminal defense attorney., Speaker, Attorney Panel at Washington University in St. Louis, 2015
  • American Institute of DUI/DWI Attorneys
  • The National College for DUI Defense

Verdicts/Settlements:

  • Defended a Conspiracy to Possess and Distribute Synthetic Marijuana charge in federal court. The defendants were alleged responsible for the distribution of the equivalent of over 90,000 kilograms of marijuana. The jury trial lasted four weeks in the Eastern District of Missouri. All defendant were found guilty. At sentencing the recommended sentence for my client was over 19 years according to the federal sentencing guidelines. After zealous advocacy throughout trial and at sentencing, my client was sentenced to only four years. The verdict is currently pending appeal to challenge the constitutionality of the charging statute, 2017
  • Three day felony child abuse jury trial where defendant was found guilty, but was only sentenced to one year of jail time. The average child abuse sentence in Missouri is over five years, 2017
  • Not Guilty - Attempted Statutory Sodomy - 1st Degree in St. Charles County, Missouri.  Defendant had two prior allegations of similar conduct, and there was an eye-witness to the alleged events in this case. Due to a questionable new law that would allow a jury to hear about the prior allegations, the decision was made to have a bench trial in this case. After effective cross-examination regarding the prior allegations and of the eye-witness in this case, the judge acquitted Defendant without even taking the case under submission, 2015
  • Not Guilty - Driving While Intoxicated - Aggravated Offender in St. Louis County, Missouri Defendant was charged with DWI for the 4th time, but there were other prior offenses the State could not prove. It is believed this was Defendant's 7th DWI case. Intoxication was admitted in this case and an operation defense was presented to the jury. The case law was not in favor of Defendant, but there was a factual disparity regarding operation. The jury deliberated less than two hours and came back with a not guilty verdict. After trial the nice, old lady who served as foreman approached me and said, "Tell your client to stop drinking ... an if I ever need a lawyer I want it to be you." , 2014

Representative Clients:

  • I represented a gentleman who is a union ironworker after he received his fifth Driving While Intoxicated charge. He is a good man and a hard worker. He agreed to stay sober and wear an alcohol monitor as evidence of his sobriety. After a long process of investigation in his case, including a deposition of the arresting officer, my client was able to avoid the two years of mandatory prison time that accompanies a fifth DWI offense in Missouri. He completed a short term in the county jail and was released on probation, 2017

Other Outstanding Achievements:

  • I spent 25 days in various jury trials during the 2017 calendar year. 22 of the 25 days was spent in jury trial in federal court, including one jury trial that lasted 16 days over the course of four weeks, 2017
