Joan M. Lockwood is a principal with Gray Ritter Graham, in St. Louis, Missouri. After receiving her bachelor's degree with honors from Boston College, Ms. Lockwood earned her J.D. with honors from the Saint Louis University School of Law, where she was a staff member of the Saint Louis University Law Journal. Admitted to practice in Missouri and Illinois, Ms. Lockwood is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 7th and 8th Circuits.

A member of the board of governors of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, Ms. Lockwood is an active member of this Association and is a co-Editor of Trial Magazine, its quarterly publication.  Ms. Lockwood serves on the Missouri Supreme Court Committee on Civil Jury Instructions. She served as Reporter to the Committee for several years.  She currently serves as the Chair of the MAI Committee.  In addition, she belongs to the American Association for Justice, the American Bar Association, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, the Illinois State Bar Association, the Lawyers Association of St. Louis and the St. Louis County Bar Association. Ms. Lockwood frequently speaks on topics related to her practice area at professional seminars.

In 2008, Ms. Lockwood was the recipient of the “Rising Star Award” presented by the St. Louis Daily Record as part of its Women’s Justice Awards program. The award recognizes those women lawyers who have already made a difference in the justice system and the profession and who appear on a path toward even greater accomplishments.

In 2003, Ms. Lockwood was honored by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis with the John C. Shepherd Professionalism Award, given annually to a young lawyer who most exhibits high professional standards and a commitment to community service.
