Focusing his practice on business matters and various commercial litigation topics, Pete has helped hundreds of clients achieve their goals over his 35 years of legal practice. His civil litigation practice includes various and diverse matters ranging from simple contract disputes to Merchandising Practices Act claims to claims involving the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and fraud. Mr. Woods’ business clients run the gamut from small and medium-sized companies, to manufacturers, to securities and transportation brokers, to banks, and utility companies, as well as individuals. Real estate matters have also been a significant portion of his work at times over the years, including private subdivisions (includes drafting and enforcing indentures), zoning, eminent domain and disputes involving contractors, developers or homeowners.
Family Law matters regularly include contested dissolution (divorce) cases, paternity, child custody, modifications, and valuation and division of property.
Pete also serves as the managing partner at Haar & Woods, LLP.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri in 1978, Mr. Woods was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs, ultimately playing parts of 4 seasons in the NFL, before receiving a Juris Doctor degree from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis.
Whether he is representing a manufacturer in a breach of warranties claim or helping clients efficiently resolve a family law matter, Mr. Woods is a strong advocate for his clients, yet committed to a personalized approach in every case. As a former collegiate and professional football player, he brings an element of competitiveness to his representation.
Sharing his knowledge with others, Mr. Woods has participated in seminars and lectured at the Washington University and Saint Louis University Schools of Law. He remains active in the legal community, as well as holding memberships with The Missouri Bar, the American Bar Association, the St. Louis County Bar Association and The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. Mr. Woods also regularly commits his time and energies to his community, previously serving as a National Board Member and local President of the National Football League Players Association (St. Louis Chapter, Retired), and as President of St. Louis Pro Players, Inc. (featuring retired players from many sports, with the goal of raising money for charities benefiting children), by volunteering his time in the Job and Leadership Training program of Mission St. Louis and with Christian Legal Aid, part of Christian Legal Society’s St. Louis Chapter. He previously served with local organizations such as the St. Louis Sports Commission, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and in leadership with various churches.
