Mr. Holden graduated with high honors from the University of Montana in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in political science, and he was a University Scholar with the Davidson Honors College. He then attended the University of Montana School of Law, where he obtained his Juris Doctor in 2001. While there, he was a member of the Public Land and Resources Law Review, and he received the Norman Hanson Legal Writing Award in Appellate Advocacy.

A leader in his legal community, Mr. Holden has served as secretary-treasurer and board of trustees member of the State Bar of Montana, and he is the past president of the Montana Criminal Defense Trial Lawyers Association. He is also past president of the State Bar of Montana's New Lawyers Section as well as the New Lawyers Chapter of the Cascade County Bar Association. He is a member of the Montana Defense Trial Lawyers and the Criminal Justice Act Panel.
