  • About What’s Right with Sam & Ash: What’s Right with Sam & Ash is one of the few live shows here in town airing in Las Vegas. Listen on News Talk 840 AM KXNT as Sam Mirejovsky and Ash Watkins give you the local news of the day, neighborhood tips, and hot gossip from across the parched desert. Be prepared to laugh (and sometimes cry) as Sam and Ash give spicy takes on exciting topics you actually care about, with a legal perspective. No afternoon slump will survive when you tune in daily from 2-3 pm on KXNT 840 AM or stream on the Audacy app. Those who skip the show risk being named our ASH-hole of the week. About Sam Mirejovsky:Sam Mirejovsky is an easy-going guy with a difficult last name. He can thank his parents for that, who fled communist Czechoslovakia to enjoy the freedom of America. Turns out the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree — following in his parents’ footsteps, Sam fled California to enjoy the freedom of Nevada. As a veteran host of AM Talk Radio in Los Angeles, Sam couldn’t pass up the opportunity to join the KXNT family here in Las Vegas. He’s charismatic, passionate about Las Vegas, and loves to talk. No, seriously… the man loves to talk (just ask Ash). He never misses a chance to say it like it is and is ready to add his refreshing perspective to KXNT every day. Aside from hosting What’s Right, Sam manages a Las Vegas-based personal injury law practice with his co-host, Ash Watkins. As a self-proclaimed billboard critic, he’ll be the first to tell you that there’s nothing quite like Vegas personal injury lawyer advertising. The quantity (and quality) is truly breathtaking.Like any successful entrepreneur, Sam took matters into his own hands and brought his critiques of billboards, politics, and pop culture to Twitter, where he unapologetically says what we’re all thinking. • If you think the insurance company will treat you fairly, think again. This video is a peek behind the curtain of how insurance companies really work. No matter how minor the injury may seem, every injury victim should speak to an experienced personal injury attorney as soon as possible. We understand why you may have waited to call an attorney. Maybe you thought your case wasn't serious enough to need a lawyer, or maybe you worried you couldn't afford one. Now, the insurance company is calling, and you're concerned about saying the wrong thing. And what about that small offer they're making you? Is it fair? Talking to the insurance company without knowing all of your rights is a bad idea. We get why your first instinct after a rear-end collision or another form of a car accident might be to go to the insurance company. You call them, tell them what happened, and explain your injuries thinking it's the right thing to do. Newsflash: insurance companies spend billions of dollars every year creating these images of being friendly and being a neighbor and someone that would treat you fairly in such a situation. But that's not what they do. They go in and look for things that they can use against you. Their advertising creates a likability and trust they don't deserve. They profit from collecting premiums and paying out as few claims as possible. It's simple economics. The insurance company knows the laws and will use their knowledge to pay you as little as possible. When the insurance company pays you less, they make more. An insurance adjuster's job is not to pay you What's Right; it's to save the insurance company money. Unrepresented claimants are treated differently than someone with a good attorney. If you go to the insurance company without a lawyer, they assign you to a front-line, entry-level adjuster. What you get essentially is the JV team. If you retain a lawyer, you get assigned to a different adjuster. The critical difference between the first adjuster and the second adjuster is that the second adjuster has more money to give out on claims. The adjusters that work with unrepresented clients who are just going at it on their own have very limited amounts of money that they can hand out — usually in the low hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars. But with the right lawyer, the client's case could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not more. Don't make the common mistake and fall for the oldest tricks in the insurance companies' books. When the insurance company does its job, you lose. When we do our job here at Sam & Ash, you win. • Do you know how to protect yourself if you've been injured at an Airbnb or while renting one? Vegas is a hospitality town and a place that welcomes visitors. So Airbnb is a natural fit because it's a nice alternative to vacationing at a hotel. The problem? There's a dark side that not many people want to talk about. Airbnbs are not held to the same standards as hotels on The Strip. Negligent people create hazards and injure others who come and visit Las Vegas. It's not right. We're seeing it more and more with our clients. They've sustained life-changing, horrific injuries at Airbnbs. People rent for short periods because they're looking to host a giant party. The problem is that the party's host doesn't care about the place, about making sure that it's safe, about protecting anything, because they are not invested in the property. One of the hardest things to determine with these cases, whether it's a drug overdose or a trip and fall, is who's really at fault for these injuries? Is Airbnb at fault? Is it the actual homeowner? Is it the person who rented the place and invited you over? Was it a guest at the party? Liability could fall on none of the above, all of the above, and everywhere in between. We help you tackle these issues in all their complexity so that you know how to best move forward. It's critical you contact a lawyer if you get injured at an Airbnb because we must hold these people accountable. Get the justice — not just for you, but for future guests entering/renting the property. It could prevent a lot of other injuries. Reach out to us with questions or for a free case review. • Sam & Ash Chapman University Scholarship At Sam & Ash Injury Law, our mission has always been to improve the quality of representation available to injury victims. The personal injury field has a long-standing negative reputation, and largely for good reason. By its nature, injury victims are rarely repeat clients. Too many lawyers see this as an excuse to skimp on service. In general, personal injury law firms don’t put enough investment into each case and each client relationship. Creating Real Change in Personal Injury At Sam & Ash Injury Law, we seek to lead by example and raise the bar for other attorneys by giving our clients the care, respect, and advocacy they deserve. But we can’t do it alone. We need the help of other attorneys who embrace the Sam & Ash Injury Law values. We’re unlikely to convince existing law firms to change their business models and give better representation to accident victims. What we can do, however, is help bring better attorneys into the legal community. It is our hope that recipients of the Sam & Ash Chapman University Scholarship will enter the personal injury field and become our allies in changing lives and doing What’s Right for injured people. • " A Las Vegas bartender has filed a lawsuit against his employer after he was allegedly forced to repay money that was stolen during an armed robbery, CBS affiliate KLAS reports. Edward Parker was working at the Lodge Hualapai on December 4, 2020, when a gunman walked into the bar and according to the lawsuit, ordered him to “kneel on the ground and put his hands behind his head while the armed assailant took all the money that was at the bar.” While Parker wasn’t injured during the confrontation, the armed assailant escaped with $3,937.35 in cash. Hours later, Parker alleges that management at The Lodge ordered him to pay the money back by having him sign a repayment form.  “I wasn’t thinking right,” Parker said. “I just had a gun shoved in my face and I signed the document.” Parker’s attorney, Sam Mirejovsky, claims The Lodge coerced his client to sign the contract. “It’s a demand for repayment, for money that was taken from him,” Mirejovsky said. “It’s the most outrageous thing I’ve ever seen and it’s not right.” The lawsuit alleges that Parker’s paycheck was docked $300 until his employer was fully reimbursed for the nearly $4,000 that was stolen during the robbery. Despite paying the money back by the end of June, Parker claims he was fired in July 2021 after taking a pre-approved vacation. “I was devastated,” Parker said. “I loved that company. I worked very hard for them. I couldn’t believe they had done this to me.” In light of his lawsuit, Parker says he hopes business owners will be held accountable. “I’m hoping to show them that I can lead by example and if you guys have problems with employers, don’t be afraid to speak up,” he said. “You’re not alone out there.'", COMPLEX | Bartender Suing Employer After Allegedly Being Forced to Repay Nearly $4000 Stolen in Armed Robbery, 2022
  • "'CASEpeer is something that you can't afford not to have.' That’s what Ash Watkins, co-founder of Sam & Ash and one of the American Academy of Attorneys’ Top 40 under 40, believes about CASEpeer’s legal practice management solution. Founded in 2019, Personal Injury firm Sam & Ash have grown their firm to two offices in Nevada and California with the help of CASEpeer.  Personal injury’s operating blueprint Without the right processes and tools in place, trying to balance task management, caseloads, deadlines, and client intake pose significant challenges. “At our past law firm, cohesion was difficult even under the same roof. We had to figure out how we would collaborate between two offices across state lines, and I think COVID-19 actually made everyone more open to that. We rely on tools like Zoom and CASEpeer to help us work together like we’re all in the same office.” But aside from cross-country communications, Sam & Ash rely on CASEpeer for everything their PI firm needs--from litigation tracking and task management to revenue forecasting and lead tracking.  “I don't know a life without CASEpeer. I used CASEpeer at my prior firm, so when I left there, it was a natural fit,” Ash recalled.  Ash can use the platform for all of her firm’s operational needs. Now, she can make data-backed decisions, from handling pertinent cases and contact information to identifying what marketing investments drive the most leads. “If you're looking at a client's CASEpeer profile, you can easily view key identifying factors like their name, date of birth, phone number, what languages they speak, the type of accident, and how they found your firm.” On top of easy access to client information, CASEpeer’s settlement tools prevent significant out-of-pocket costs from closing out cases before paying the relevant medical providers. “The Settlements Tab is by far the greatest feature--it’s our one-stop shop to know what's going on across cases and how to close them out effectively. That way, we can make sure that every medical provider involved in settlement negotiations has a negotiated and agreed-upon bill.” Ensuring long-term business health  On top of the tools and information needed to manage their ever-growing caseload, Sam & Ash rely on task manager, reporting, and more to guide their business strategy.  “From a business standpoint, the most critical parts of the software are the Management and Reports tabs. I can look at all of our teams and see what fees have been brought in that month, how much money is pending, and view current and projected revenue for each month to make better business decisions. “As someone that needs to make business decisions months out, that's critical. If there's money hung up for some reason, you can see what steps need to be taken to expedite that,” said Ash.  User-friendly, turnkey case management designed for Personal Injury Most case management platforms require you to hire implementation consultants who demand significant time and resources to customize the right solution.  On top of that, the same solutions that claim to be “built for you” end up lengthening onboarding and implementation due to the customizations they claim your firm needs.  CASEpeer’s legal practice management solution was designed to empower every level of a PI firm’s team with intuitive navigation, transparency, and built-in communication tools.  “The other legal case management solutions just weren’t visually attractive or intuitive. Out of the box, CASEpeer is like an iPhone. You just pick it up, and you can figure it out without any instructions. With a lot of the other products, you had to create your own developments and add-ons to get what you needed.” Onboarding new employees at any law firm poses significant challenges, especially when it comes down to training staff on how to work and use the technology.   “With CASEpeer, you can truly just let an employee look around and figure it out. It’s not only efficient in managing files, but it’s also a good training tool for how we manage cases. Our new employees can better visualize their role, objectives, how they factor into a case, and what a case entails. They see the tabs of a police report. They see medical records. They see litigation. It intuitively trains them on our processes,” Ash explained.  Industry-leading support and long-lasting relationships With an unmatched customer support team, extensive online help center, and support chat built into CASEpeer, Ash and her firm have a case management software that caters to their needs.  “I don’t suggest practicing plaintiff's personal injury law without CASEpeer. I've seen some other attempts at case management software in the field, and I think it’s the most user-friendly and intuitive solution out there,” said Ash.  In addition to ongoing support and development, Sam & Ash have a true operating partner within CASEpeer.  “I like the responsiveness of the CASEpeer team in developing features that we need. We have an open line of communication and they tell me how to use the platform and what not to do. We have a great rapport in that sense, and they make sure we’re utilizing the product fully, from HelloSign to QuickBooks.  “I truly love the product. I love Gabriela, the CEO, and Brian, the CTO. Their goals are the same as any reasonable personal injury business owner.  “They want the product to be as efficient and effective as possible and they'll do everything they can to make that happen,” Ash said.", CASEpeer | Sam & Ash Law Turns to CASEpeer for Personal Injury Practice Management, 2021
  • " LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A bartender robbed at gunpoint who said he was forced to pay back the thousands of dollars stolen filed a lawsuit Tuesday against his former employer. Video of the incident obtained by the 8 News Now I-Team shows an armed man coming into The Lodge at Hualapai on the morning of Dec. 4, 2020. Edward Parker, 42, was working at the bar when the robber demanded money. Parker, holding his hands in the air, gives the armed man money from the register and cash sitting on the bar, the video showed. The business is on Hualapai Way near Desert Inn Road in Summerlin. “It’s December 2020. We’re in the middle of COVID,” Parker said. “People are fighting for jobs left and right. I suppose I let the idea of having a steady job with steady income cloud my judgment.” Hours after handing over $3,900, Parker said management at The Lodge told him he had to pay the money back, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday. “I wasn’t thinking right,” Parker said. “I just had a gun shoved in my face and I signed the document.” The signed contract said $300 would come out of Parker’s paycheck until the full amount, $3,937.35, was paid off. “What’s the time between when you were robbed and when you signed that document?” the I-Team’s David Charns asked Parker. “Three-to-4 hours, tops,” he said. Parker is now living out of state. His attorneys, Sam Mirejovsky and Amanda Brookhyser said The Lodge coerced Parker to sign the contract and work under unfair conditions after having been the victim of a crime. “It’s a demand for repayment, for money that was taken from him,” Mirejovsky said. “It’s the most outrageous thing I’ve ever seen and it’s not right.” “He allowed this armed assailant to come in, do what he was threatening to do, and leave without getting himself hurt or without getting the patrons hurt,” Brookhyser said. “He did everything right. His employer did everything wrong.” After paying the money back in the summer of 2021, Parker said he was fired after taking a pre-approved vacation. The lawsuit said managers approved the vacation that spring but then changed their vacation policy. “I was devasted,” Parker said. “I loved that company. I worked very hard for them. I couldn’t believe they had done this to me.” Parker said he hoped the lawsuit proves no employee is too small and that business owners, particularly in the restaurant industry, will be held accountable. “I’m hoping to show them that I can lead by example and if you guys have problems with employers, don’t be afraid to speak up,” Parker said. “You’re not alone out there.” Police charged the armed robber, later identified as Jack McLaughlin, 43, in a string of armed robberies from September to December of 2020. • "LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — On December 4, 2020, just before 7:30 a.m., surveillance video obtained by 13 Investigates shows a man in a hooded sweatshirt enter The Lodge on Hualapai Way near Desert Inn Road and immediately pull out a gun. "He said, 'Keep your hands where I can see them! Give me the cash! You know what this is,'" recalls Edward Parker, the bartender who was on duty when the robbery went down. Surveillance video shows Parker hand over the cash, then kneel on the ground with his hands behind his head as the robber puts the money in his bag. "I was terrified, petrified! I've never had anything in my life happen like that before," Parker said. The robber left with the cash. But more money was about to change hands. Later than morning, Parker was summoned by Lodge management. "And he expects that his employer is calling him in to a meeting to be asked, 'How are you doing? Can we help you? Do you need some time off?' Instead, they say, 'Here's a piece of paper. Repay the money or you're out,'" said attorney Sam Mirejovsky, who's representing Parker in a newly filed lawsuit. "To me, it was such a violation! Not just of the law, not just of right and wrong, but also the trust that employees need to have with their employers," Mirejovsky said. The suit accuses The Lodge of coercion, intimidation, deceptive trade and more. It centers around a "Repayment form" Parker says he signed under duress, agreeing to reimburse the bar for $3,937.35 — either in one lump-sum or regular $300 paycheck deductions. "I was confused by why this would happen. Frustrated. But also fearful of losing my job," Parker said. "You've got to remember, this is December of 2020." Parker signed the document. "My brain wasn't working correctly after having a gun shoved in my face," he said. "I was thinking about my paychecks, my livelihood, at a very chaotic time in America." Lodge management did not respond to our call for comment, so we went to their corporate office, where we were told no one was available. A second message left in person was not returned, either. The Lodge at Hualapai later sent the following statement:"The stories appearing on the news and social media are not reflective of the facts as they occurred relating to Mr. Parker. The Lodge at Hualapai has been informed that a lawsuit has been filed by Mr. Parker. Given this pending litigation, and to maintain the confidentiality of matters of relating to its employees, as required under state and federal law, The Lodge will not be commenting publicly on this issue. The Lodge will vigorously defend against the lawsuit and the misinformation being circulated."When attorneys from the law firm Sam and Ash first heard about what happened, they talked about it on their radio show. "This story enrages us!" Mirejovsky said. "It's not just about Edward. It's about every single tip earner in this town. I believe they should expect to have their employer have their back." Parker was not the only one. On December 11, 2020, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police arrested 42-year-old Jack McLaughlin and 38-year-old Daniela Tito. Police say the pair robbed a series of bars, including two other Lodge locations — Grand Teton Lodge in October and Cactus Lodge in November — before they hit The Lodge at Hualapai in December 2020. "Considering the fact that two of our other properties had been robbed before that, a security system would be nice," said Parker. "Most other taverns in Las Vegas have a door buzzer system to allow people in and out of the building during certain hours. We didn't have that." We asked Mirejovsky if bartenders at the other robbed locations were also forced to pay the stolen money back. "One of them was, and he quit as a consequence of it, is my understanding," Mirejovsky said. He says The Lodge's actions are illegal. "It's theft! It's conversion. And it violates Nevada law," he said. In order to withhold money, Mirejovsky explains an employer must prove their employee is responsible for it. Is there some kind of a claim that he didn't follow procedure as far as money kept in the drawer or anything like that? "That's the reason they gave him for why he needed to pay the money back," Mirejovsky said. "And what we'll ask them in the discovery phase is to show us the books, show us where our client signed and approved a handbook. We believe there is none." There's also the matter of how else The Lodge could have been reimbursed. If the company had liability insurance, could they have been double-dipping by forcing Parker to pay them back? "I don't know if they're double-dipping on the insurance claim," Mirejovsky said. "But that's one of the things that we are absolutely going to look into." As they were working toward filing the lawsuit, Parker filed a complaint with the Nevada Labor Commission which resulted in a $5,520 settlement. But he declined, on advice of counsel. "It does show that there's an acknowledgment that there's a problem," Mirejovsky said. "It changed my life — and not for the better," said Parker, who explains that after paying all the money back, he was essentially fired over a dispute about a single vacation day. He has since left Las Vegas, a city he loved, to be closer to family across the country and to distance himself from all this. "I think bad deeds hide in the shadows, and the best thing we can do is put light on them, and then get the justice that's deserved," Mirejovsky said. Accused robber Jack McLaughlin's criminal case is still winding its way through court. In the meantime, he said attorneys would conduct their own investigation and ensure evidence specific to their clients was preserved because damages paid by the business could be specific to them. Mirejovsky said it's best to retain an attorney as soon as possible to preserve information and evidence. "The sooner the better," he said. "If you're the business, you're right now in a place where you've contacted your lawyers. You're looking to mitigate your damages, and time is not on your side as the victim." The Southern Nevada Health District has launched an extensive survey and has asked anyone who's eaten at the restaurant to fill it out so they can get a full count of people affected and track down the source of the issue. Mirejovsky said it will take time to get answers from investigators and then even more time for restitution to be allocated if a lawsuit is warranted. "The investigation may take weeks," he said. "That's the truth, and the restitution could take months." Mirejovsky said a visit to the doctor should be anyone's first move if they suspect their food has been tainted as, first, medical professionals can help solve problems, and any tests or diagnoses can be used as evidence in court.", KTNV 13 Action News | At least four people have retained attorneys in anticipation of civil lawsuit against Secret of Siam, 2022
  • What’s Right with Sam & Ash is one of the few live shows here in town airing in Las Vegas. Listen on News-Talk 840 KXNT as Sam Mirejovsky and Ash Watkins give you the local news of the day, neighborhood tips, and hot gossip from across the parched desert.  Be prepared to laugh (and sometimes cry) as Sam and Ash give spicy takes on exciting topics you actually care about, with a legal perspective. No afternoon slump will survive when you tune in daily from 2p-3p on KXNT, kxnt.com or stream on the Audacy app. Those who skip the show risk being named our ASH-hole of the week.About Sam Mirejovsky: Sam Mirejovsky is an easy-going guy with a difficult last name. He can thank his parents for that, who fled communist Czechoslovakia to enjoy the freedom of America. Turns out the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree — following in his parents’ footsteps, Sam fled California to enjoy the freedom of Nevada. As a veteran host of talk radio in Los Angeles, Sam couldn’t pass up the opportunity to join the KXNT family here in Las Vegas. He’s charismatic, passionate about Las Vegas, and loves to talk. No, seriously ... the man loves to talk (just ask Ash). The quantity (and quality) is truly breathtaking. Like any successful entrepreneur, Sam took matters into his own hands and brought his critiques of billboards, politics, and pop culture to Twitter, where he unapologetically says what we’re all thinking.
