A partner at Hobbie & DeCarlo, P.C., in Eatontown, New Jersey, Norman M. Hobbie has built a distinguished legal career spanning both civil and criminal litigation. His practice encompasses personal injury, catastrophic injuries, motor vehicle crashes, construction site accidents, wrongful death, premises liability, medical malpractice, toxic torts and chemical exposure, Social Security Disability and workers' compensation. Underscoring his standing in the field, he has earned certification as a civil trial attorney from the Supreme Court of the State of New Jersey, a recognition reserved for a select group of practitioners.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Hobbie has represented individuals devastated by catastrophic motor vehicle collisions, defective product design, railroad negligence, automotive manufacturing failures, chemical contamination, and negligent property maintenance or security, securing million-dollar awards on their behalf. Remarkably versatile in the courtroom, he has tried cases from every vantage point – plaintiff, defense and criminal – having litigated approximately 100 cases that yielded settlements and verdicts reaching as high as $38,500,000.
Mr. Hobbie’s criminal defense work is equally formidable. He mounts a vigorous defense for clients facing municipal, state and federal prosecution, including charges of homicide, aggravated sexual assault, robbery, drug distribution, white collar crime, fraud, official misconduct and aggravated assault.
This courtroom acumen was forged early in his career as an assistant prosecutor with the Union County Prosecutor's Office, where Mr. Hobbie served as deputy supervisor of the Major Crimes Unit and Special Enforcement Unit, overseeing investigations and prosecutions involving homicide, kidnapping, sexual assault, aggravated assault and narcotics trafficking.
Beyond the courtroom, Mr. Hobbie shares his expertise as a lecturer on cross-examination, trial practice and litigation strategy for organizations such as the Institute for Continued Legal Education and various Trial Lawyers' Associations. He holds membership in the American Association for Justice, as well as the Monmouth Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association.
An academic scholar, Mr. Hobbie earned his law degree from Fordham University School of Law and was admitted to practice law in New Jersey in 1980.
