Attorney Maria D. Noto is the founder of the Law Office of Maria D. Noto, P.C. At her Matawan law firm, Ms. Noto focuses on protecting the rights of individuals accused of criminal offenses throughout the State of New Jersey. She regularly defends clients against a variety of charges, ranging from disorderly persons offenses to felonies, including but not limited to the following:
• Municipal court violations, including driving under the influence, traffic violations and drug possession
• Criminal offenses, including underage drinking, drug sales and distribution, theft, assault, murder, and manslaughter
• All state and Federal crimes, including federal drug offenses and federal white-collar crimes
Ms. Noto began her legal career in 1980 after earning a law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law and her approval to practice in New Jersey. In addition to her approval to practice in New Jersey state court, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court have all issued their approvals for her to practice in their courtrooms.
Early in Ms. Noto's career, she served as the assistant deputy public defender in Essex County. After going into private practice, she gained a reputation as a skilled — and determined — trial attorney who has tried over 200 jury trials with a high win rate. Early in her career, she spent two years defending one of the accused in the longest federal trial in New Jersey's history; the prosecution of the alleged Lucchese organized crime family. Her client, along with the 20 other defendants were found not guilty. She has tried 9 murder cases, winning acquittals in 7 of them.
Over the course of her career, her many courtroom successes have resulted in a number of honors, including a "Superb" rating from Avvo. In addition, her leadership skills have led to a number of positions in the legal community; she is a past president of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey.
