Verdicts / Settlements (Case Results)
- Scored numerous triumphs throughout many years of practice which focuses on mass tort and class action litigation, medical malpractice, construction litigation, products liability, defamation (including a case on behalf of a major sports figure), and civil rights. In just one of his many successful legal endeavors, Mr. McHugh, along with James E. Beasley, Sr., obtained a $907 million verdict in 1999 against then-fugitive Ira Einhorn for his murder of Holly Maddux. Together with James Beasley, Mr. McHugh tried a number of cases ending in substantial verdicts or settlements for their clients. On his own, Mr. McHugh has secured seven and eight-figure recoveries by way of both verdicts and settlements, including one of the highest confidential settlements in the history of Philadelphia. The streak of multi-million dollar successes has continued and now includes recoveries on behalf of hundreds of clients from pharmaceutical giants, such as Eli Lilly and Bayer. Recently, Mr. McHugh was responsible for retaining and developing a vital expert who testified in a recent New Jersey Vioxx trial, McDarby, et al. v. Merck & Co., Inc. The trial resulted in a verdict for a Vioxx victim of 4.5 million dollars in compensatory damages and 9 million dollars in punitive damages. Jim handled Vioxx cases since its recall and was interviewed and quoted extensively on the subject (by Wall Street Journal, New York Times, CNN, Forbes, Associated Press, Philadelphia Inquirer and more). Both Jim and partner, Ramon Lopez, have been involved in verdicts and settlements in the nine figures as well as many verdicts and settlements in the seven and eight figures for individual cases. Recoveries include $907 million in Philadelphia county and $700 million in federal court for Zyprexa, and recent recoveries for Yaz/Yasmin. Lopez McHugh is pursuing litigation against transvaginal mesh because mesh devices cause erosion, extrusion, severe pain, and other complications. Call today to join the mesh lawsuit and protect your legal rights. A mesh lawsuit may be the best way to recover compensation for your medical bills, and to hold companies accountable for marketing faulty products. In fact, in February 2013, a jury awarded over $11 million to a woman who had 18 surgeries to attempt to correct problems with her mesh device. Every case is different, but an attorney can help determine if a lawsuit is right for you.
