Ms. Awan completed her undergraduate studies at Rutgers University, where she received the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award from the Governor’s Office and the Academic Excellence Award from the Academic Foundations Center. She also was part of the university’s Student Government Association and the Social Justice Club. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree in public administration in 2014, she enrolled at the Seton Hall University School of Law.
During her time in law school, Ms. Awan was president of the Muslim Law Student Association, vice president of the Employment Law Forum and a student representative for the Young Lawyers Division of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA). She also participated in the North East Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition and won first place. She received her Juris Doctor in 2018 and, just a year later, obtained her license to practice in New Jersey.
To gain more practical exposure to what the legal landscape has to offer, Ms. Awan clerked at the Superior Court of New Jersey for the Hon. Yolanda Ciccone, the Hon. Thomas C. Miller and the Hon. Michael F. O’Neill. This experience gave her a glimpse of what to expect when fighting for her clients within her local judiciary, as well as many intricate nuances that allow her to provide well-rounded advocacy.
Within her legal community, Ms. Awan holds close affiliations with many prominent legal organizations, including the Essex County Bar Association, The Hudson County Bar Association & Foundation, the New Jersey Muslim Lawyer’s Association, the NJSBA and the Somerset County Bar Association.
