Jay R. Atkins

Jay R. Atkins is an attorney with over 50 years of legal experience. Mr. Atkins is a partner at Atkins, Tafuri, Minassian, D’Amato & Beane, P.A., in River Edge, New Jersey. He serves clients throughout northern New Jersey, primarily focusing his practice on family law, while also practicing criminal defense, land use and zoning law.

A talented litigator, Mr. Atkins has successfully tried many complex family law cases. In addition to his role as a private attorney, he has served as a representative for children and as a special discovery master in family law cases. He has also resolved many cases by serving as a court-appointed mediator. His clients have included individuals, as well as businesses such as building and construction companies.

Mr. Atkins graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a bachelor’s degree. He went on to earn his law degree from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, concentrating his studies on government and political science. He holds a license to practice law before all New Jersey state courts.

Prior to founding Atkins, Tafuri, Minassian, D’Amato & Beane, P.A., in 1979, Mr. Atkins worked in private practice at New Jersey-based law firms as an associate and partner. He also served as a prosecutor for various New Jersey municipalities and as the municipal attorney for Rochelle Park, New Jersey.

Over the years, Mr. Atkins has contributed to his local legal community through leadership roles and active involvement in professional organizations. He is a former member of the Bergen County Bar Association Family Law Committee and previously belonged to the Bergen County Ethics Committee.
