  • The article argues that while the 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to bring major tourism and economic benefits to the New York metropolitan area, early hotel demand appears softer than anticipated, raising questions about whether mega-events truly deliver the financial windfalls often promised. It explains that high travel costs, the tournament’s spread across multiple countries and cities, alternative lodging options, and the displacement of regular tourists may reduce the expected economic impact. The piece emphasizes that although the World Cup will still generate global exposure, prestige, and business opportunities, history shows that economic projections for large sporting events are often overstated and unevenly distributed., Michael J. • The attorneys general of New York and New Jersey announced they have subpoenaed FIFA over ticket sales tied to the 2026 World Cup, including the matches scheduled for MetLife Stadium and the final itself. • The article argues that while the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup promises greater global inclusion with 48 teams and 104 matches across North America, it may also make the tournament less accessible to ordinary fans due to rising ticket prices, resale markups, travel expenses, and commercialization. Michael J. Epstein questions whether FIFA’s expansion is truly about growing the sport or maximizing revenue through more games, sponsorships, and premium experiences. The piece also raises concerns about logistical strain, environmental impact, and the risk of diluting the tournament’s intensity and authenticity as it grows larger and more corporate-driven., Michael J. • A recent article by Michael J. Epstein warns that the sudden shutdown of Spirit Airlines could create major travel problems for fans attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The collapse of a major low-cost carrier is expected to drive up airfare prices, reduce availability, and make travel less accessible for domestic and cross-border fans traveling between host cities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. While passengers may receive refunds, the article explains that refunds alone will not offset rising costs or replace affordable routes that are now gone. • The article argues that New Jersey’s proposed tax increases tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup reveal a larger problem with how mega-events are financed. State officials say the higher sales taxes, hotel surcharges, and transportation fees are aimed at tourists to help cover security and infrastructure costs, but critics argue local residents will end up paying much of the burden. The piece highlights how FIFA’s hosting agreements often limit direct taxation on the event itself, forcing governments to recover costs through broader regional taxes instead. It also raises concerns about whether the financial responsibilities of hosting are fairly shared among FIFA, New Jersey, and neighboring New York, which is expected to benefit economically from the tournament., Michael J. • The article argues that the proposed $150 round-trip train fare to MetLife Stadium during the 2026 FIFA World Cup reflects deeper problems with how major global events shift costs onto the public and attendees. While FIFA is expected to generate billions in revenue, transportation and infrastructure expenses are falling on local governments and fans, with limited affordable transit alternatives available. The piece criticizes both FIFA and public officials for creating a system where ordinary people bear the financial burden while the most profitable entities avoid responsibility., Michael J. • A proposed transportation plan for the 2026 FIFA World Cup at MetLife Stadium is drawing criticism over high transit costs and commuter disruptions. NJ Transit plans to charge $150 round-trip train fares and $80 shuttle fares to move thousands of fans safely, while officials argue the costs are necessary due to strict FIFA security requirements and limited parking. Critics, including commuters and transportation advocates, say the pricing could discourage public transit use, burden families, and create major disruptions for everyday riders during match days., Larry Higgs, World Cup transportation plan sparks debate over costs, commuter impact, Personal Injury, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Construction Accidents, Medical Malpractice, Product Liability, Premises Liability, Civil Litigation, Nursing Home Negligence, Professional Malpractice, Business Litigation, 2026
  • The article argues that the lack of a clear parking and transportation plan for the 2026 FIFA World Cup at MetLife Stadium creates major safety and legal risks. With no on-site parking and limited transit options, tens of thousands of fans will be forced into crowded trains, buses, rideshares, and pedestrian routes, increasing the likelihood of injuries and chaos. The piece emphasizes that transportation is a core safety issue and warns that FIFA, stadium operators, transit agencies, and local governments could all face liability if preventable accidents occur.      , Michael J. •     Foxborough, Massachusetts has exposed a major legal and financial concern ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after warning it may deny the licenses needed to host matches unless security funding is guaranteed. The dispute centers on millions of dollars in expected federal funding that has yet to arrive, leaving local officials questioning who would be legally responsible for policing, emergency response, and public safety costs. • With just over 100 days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, U.S. host cities warned Congress that frozen FEMA funding and coordination problems could jeopardize security preparations for the tournament. Officials said delays are making it harder to hire staff, purchase equipment, and conduct emergency planning for what will be the largest World Cup in history. The article argues that Congress should act quickly to address funding and security concerns, noting that major global events are high-risk targets and that host cities have already sounded the alarm about potential vulnerabilities., Michael J. Epstein, With 100 Days Until FIFA World Cup 26, Congress Should Be Concerned, Personal Injury, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Construction Accidents, Medical Malpractice, Product Liability, Premises Liability, Civil Litigation, Nursing Home Negligence, Professional Malpractice, Business Litigation, 2026
  • An article by Michael J. Epstein examines how international sports organizations like International Olympic Committee and FIFA regulate athlete expression during major competitions. Using the case of Ukrainian athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych, who was barred from competing with a helmet honoring victims of the Russia-Ukraine war, the piece argues that the real legal risk is not the existence of expression rules, but inconsistent enforcement. The article warns that during the FIFA World Cup 2026, disputes over political or symbolic messages could create legal, competitive, and public relations challenges if FIFA does not apply its policies clearly and uniformly., Michael J. Epstein, From The Olympic Track To The FIFA World Cup 26 Pitch: The Legal Fault Line Over Athlete Expression, Personal Injury, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Construction Accidents, Medical Malpractice, Product Liability, Premises Liability, Civil Litigation, Nursing Home Negligence, Professional Malpractice, Business Litigation, 2026

  • A major winter storm affecting more than 20 states, including New Jersey, has raised serious concerns about slip-and-fall injuries caused by snow and ice. The article explains that commercial property owners have a legal duty to clear dangerous conditions within a reasonable time after a storm, while municipalities have special legal protections and strict 90-day claim deadlines. It also highlights key legal concepts like premises liability, comparative negligence, and the importance of documenting evidence and seeking medical attention after an accident., Winter's Legal Peril: Know Your Rights After a Slip-and-Fall Injury, Winter's Legal Peril: Know Your Rights After a Slip-and-Fall Injury, Personal Injury, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Construction Accidents, Medical Malpractice, Product Liability, Premises Liability, Civil Litigation, Nursing Home Negligence, Professional Malpractice, Business Litigation, 2026

  • The article argues that FIFA World Cup tickets are heavily one-sided legal agreements that leave fans with very few protections despite extremely high prices. It explains that tickets are considered revocable licenses, meaning FIFA can deny entry, limit refunds, invalidate resale tickets, require mandatory arbitration in Miami, and cap liability for losses like travel or lodging expenses. The piece warns fans that nearly all risks — from phone issues to schedule changes — are shifted onto consumers, while FIFA retains broad control over access, privacy rights, and dispute resolution., Michael J.
