Part lawyer, part human -- Theresa “Terry” A. Lyons is the founder and Managing Partner of Lyons & Associates, P.C. She and the firm’s cases have been featured in thousands of news and media outlets across the planet. Admitted to the United States Supreme Court and other jurisdictions, she is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer representing clients in some of the most complex, high-value, and closely watched legal disputes. Her practice focuses on high-asset divorce, business and asset valuation, executive compensation, contested custody, and other financially and personally significant family law matters. As a parent to a former All-American athlete, she also is a prominent thought leader and lawyer in the burgeoning area of Name, Image, and Likeness law. Terry also is a trusted advisor in the realms of public policy and entrepreneurial development. She combines sophisticated legal strategy and courtroom advocacy with an uncommon understanding of the dynamics and behaviors that often drive these cases.
Terry earned her Juris Doctor and Master of Social Work through Rutgers University’s joint J.D./M.S.W. program and graduated from Rutgers Law School with High Honors, while also garnering the Social Work Dean’s Award as the most “Outstanding Administrative, Policy, and Planning Student.” She later served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Peter G. Verniero (Ret.) of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, who now writes the State’s official Rules of Court. Before founding Lyons & Associates, Terry practiced at Drinker Biddle & Reath working on sophisticated matters, including serving on litigation teams representing Fortune Fifty Companies.
In addition to her legal practice, Terry is the author of the Amazon #1 Best Seller Sticks and Stones: Life Lessons from a Lawyer. As a pioneer, she helped develop an early smartphone application designed to connect domestic-violence survivors with information and resources, and she has written and lectured in many legal, educational, and entrepreneurial arenas.
When Terry is not lawyering, she enjoys eating ice cream, rooting for the New York Jets, and taking road trips in her ugly motorhome, affectionately named “Bubba.”
