Mr. Zegas received his Bachelor's Degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, his MBA from Harvard Business School, and his Juris Doctor with honors from Rutgers Law School in 1981. The New Jersey State Bar  admitted him to practice that same year. Additionally, Mr. Zegas is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, the U.S. District Courts for the Western and Southern Districts of New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Throughout his 35-year career, Mr. Zegas has served as counsel on many high profile and landmark cases.  He recently successfully represented the Government's key witness in the nationally prominent "Bridgegate" case:  his client was sentenced to a term of probation.  Mr. Zegas has also served as co-counsel to former Newark Mayor, Sharpe James, at his criminal trial, and he has represented numerous other New Jersey mayors and politicians.  Mr. Zegas was counsel for a defendant in the nationally prominent "Glen Ridge" rape case, which was the subject of multiple books and a tv movie.  He also represented Margaret Kelly Michaels in a nationally prominent case, which resulted in new protocols for the questioning of child witnesses, and he represented the defendant in State v. Chen, which set new standards for eyewitness identification, the protocols were featured on the front page of the New York Times.  Mr. Zegas also obtained acquittals for: Victor Botnick, the former chief of staff to New York Mayor, Ed Koch; David Ford, a school teacher accused of sexually assaulting a dozen students; and Peter Obi, a pharmacist accused of medicaid fraud.

In recognition for his service and dedication to his practice, Mr. Zegas has received many awards and honors, including an AV-Preeminent peer review rating* from Martindale-Hubbell.

Nationally recognized for his extensive knowledge and experience in criminal law, many nationally prominent publications have cited Mr. Zegas, who has appeared on numerous television and radio programs throughout the country, including 60 Minutes.  Mr. Zegas is an editor of Gann Law's New Jersey Evidence book, and is a former editor of Lexis/Nexis NJ Criminal Procedure.  Mr. Zegas lectures on criminal, civil and appellate trial practices. Moreover, he has served as adjunct professor for Rutgers Law School and regularly conducts lectures for The Institute of Continuing Legal Education.
