For over 30 years, John J. Scura III has provided top-quality representation to clients in various legal matters, including personal injury issues, estate planning, bankruptcy law (representing debtors and creditors) and litigation, as well as commercial litigation. A partner at the law firm of Scura, Wigfield, Heyer, Stevens & Cammarota, LLP, in Wayne, New Jersey, he serves the residents of Hoboken, Hackensack, Newark and Secaucus, and the surrounding regions.
A consummate professional through and through, Mr. Scura has maintained a consistent reputation as a fearless advocate for his clients, fighting vigorously to get them the respite they so deserve in their legal woes. His professionalism shines through in every case, and his certification in 2013 by the New Jersey Supreme Court is a testament to the very same. In addition to New Jersey, he is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
After graduating cum laude in 1988 with his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida and being included in the dean’s list in his final year, Mr. Scura went on to pursue law at the Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey. During his time at law school, he was the articles editor of the Journal of Sports Law and received his Juris Doctor cum laude in 1993.
With a fervent desire to gain exposure to how the state operates in the legal space, Mr. Scura went to clerk for the Honorable Herman D. Michels of the Appellate Division of the State of New Jersey and honed his legal acumen, where he assisted in preparing published opinions and research, as well as writing memos and providing recommendations to the judge. The experience of working intently within the state legal system has greatly shaped his shrewd legal acumen, which is evident when helping his clients overcome their legal matters. His commitment to his clients has earned him a perfect “10.0” rating on Avvo, along with the site’s Clients’ Choice Award. Furthermore, his many million-dollar verdicts and settlements have earned him membership in the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
When not vehemently representing his clients, Mr. Scura stays closely affiliated with many legal organizations within his legal community, including the New Jersey Association for Justice, the American Bar Association, the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey, the Hudson County Bar Association, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and the Passaic County Bar Association (former trustee). A believer in helping his local community, he often works pro bono with the Domestic Violence Project and helps debtors with their bankruptcy issues, and his selfless acts have earned him the Equal Justice Major Pro Bono Contributions Medal by Pro Bono NJ, as well as the Service Award by the RHF Foundation.
