Beyond his legal practice, he has been an elected official, serving as a Sandoval County Commissioner and was a member of the State House of Representatives and the House's rule Chair. He was pivotal in creating the State Ethics Commission and revising the Conservator/Guardianship and Medical Malpractice Act statutes. At a free legal clinic in Albuquerque’s South Valley, he helped over 250 people with a translator.
