A 1990 magna cum laude graduate of Southern Illinois University, Mr. MacKenzie obtained his master's degree and Juris Doctor from Syracuse University in 1993. Along with practicing before all New Mexico state courts, he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico. Mr. MacKenzie handles cases in all district and appellate courts in New Mexico.
A leader in his legal community, Mr. MacKenzie is the former president of the New Mexico Guardianship Association. He also served on the House Joint Memorial 34 Task Force on Guardianship Reform in 2007 and the 2008 House Memorial 6 Task Force on Guardianship Reform, where he served as chairman of the Post-Adjudication Committee. He was elected Fellow to the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel in 2010 where he serves as an active member of the Fiduciary Litigation Committee. He participated as a committee member on the Uniform Law Commission drafting committee for the Uniform Guardianship and Conservatorship and Other Protective Arrangements Act. He is the former chair of the New Mexico State Bar Real Property Trust and Estate Section and chair of the trust and estate division of that section. He has been the planning chair for the New Mexico State Bar Probate Institute for many years. He serves as the chair of the education committee for the New Mexico Guardianship Association and served as the chair of the civil committee of the Senior Citizens Law Office Financial Exploitation Task Force which has recommended a civil anti-exploitation statute to the New Mexico legislature. Mr. MacKenzie has given many presentations and presented many papers to lawyers in New Mexico and other states concerning matters related to contested probate, trusts and guardianship and conservatorship.
