Jay B. Bell

In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jay B. Bell serves as a senior associate attorney at Business Law Southwest and joined the firm in 2021. In transactional practice, Mr. Bell advises on a broad range of business arrangements, including shareholder and buy-sell agreements, partnership governance, independent contractor and employment contracts. He focuses on drafting practical documents that reduce friction and protect value, and he counsels owners and executives on structuring deals to withstand commercial pressures.

Mr. Bell’s work in real estate covers transactional and conflict-driven matters: commercial leases, purchase and sale agreements, construction disputes, homeowners association conflicts, and boundary and easement issues. Beyond real estate, he represents clients in corporate criminal defense, intellectual property litigation, professional licensing matters, taxation questions, estate and probate proceedings, and assists with record expungement where appropriate.

Holding a Bachelor of Science in journalism from the University of Colorado and both a master’s in business administration and a J.D. from the University of San Diego, completed in 1987, Mr. Bell has built a strong foundation in journalism, advanced business and legal training. Drawing on this diverse background, he brings clear analysis and disciplined advocacy to complex commercial matters.

Licensed across New Mexico, Georgia and California, Mr. Bell also holds certification as a mediator in Georgia. These credentials allow him to navigate multi-jurisdictional issues with procedural fluency and to coordinate filings, hearings and strategy for clients whose interests cross state lines.

When disputes arise, Mr. Bell takes an active posture in litigation and alternative resolution. He has represented clients in jury and bench trials, conducted extensive deposition practice, handled administrative hearings and participated in numerous mediations. His courtroom and negotiation experience spans counties in California, Georgia and New Mexico and is applied to secure enforceable outcomes for clients.

Approaching every matter with meticulous preparation and clear communication, Mr. Bell prioritizes practical solutions tailored to a client’s business objectives. He coordinates with outside specialists as needed, frames litigation risk realistically and develops strategies designed to move matters forward efficiently.
