Details

Joseph Kennedy is a partner at Kennedy Law Firm in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Joe Kennedy has represented people targeted by police and government abuse for over 25 years.

In 1991, Mr. Kennedy successfully represented a client in his first civil rights trial in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico. Police had unnecessarily unleashed a dog on his war veteran client. The jury returned a verdict in favor of Mr. Kennedy’s client in the amount of $250,000 and also included a punitive damage award of $150,000.

In the years since that decision, Mr. Kennedy has continued to secure substantial verdicts in civil rights cases for his clients. Many of these decisions have resulted in significant policy changes and advancement in law. For instance, policy changes include a reduction in the use of dogs to arrest citizens, a change in how the City of Albuquerque targets nuisance properties for takings, a reduction of arrests of school children, and a change in the seizure and forfeiture of money by the state and county.

More recently, Mr. Kennedy and his firm have aggressively litigated many police shooting cases against the City of Albuquerque. The work the law firm has done has led directly to reforms that have reduced the number of police shootings in Albuquerque.

Mr. Kennedy remains committed to recovering fair and just compensation for all his clients.
